5 Days Off Artist Special: Marek Hemmann
During 5 Days Off there are extensive clubbing nights with fine line ups that go on until the early hours. Before those parties commence there are electronic concerts for you to enjoy as well. One of those artists who have deserved his own evening during 5 days off is Marek Hemmann. Be prepared for a brand new, one and a half-hour live-act consisting of Marek’s musical wilderness of eclectic sounds and constant grooves.
Marek Hemmann’s musical story began when he started learning to play guitar. Soon enough he found out that the sonic spectrum of the instrument was way too limited. Logically, his next discovery had to be samplers and synthesisers, with which he could create sounds to his own liking. The reason for this sonic passion was delivered to him via the techno parties in the late 90’s in his home area of Gera, soon to be a weekly anchor for electronic experimentation. Here you could find deep and delightful connections with people, rhymes, lights and sounds. After making music for himself and his flat mates, he eventually convinced himself to take things to the next level and initiated his first live performances in front of other audiences.

His skill grew and his curiosity expanded the variety in his music, ultimately leading to that distinctive Marek Hemmann sound. That sound can be heard in his broad catalogue of tracks that have been dropped on Upon. You, Freude Am Tanzen, Raum, Compost and Stil vor Talent. His latest album, “Bittersweet”, has also just been released and is a testimony to his colourfulness. He isn’t strange to making a remix or two either, having had the honours for reworks of Oliver Koletzki, Monika Kruse, Marcus Meinhardt, Dusty Kid, Nicone & Sascha Braemer, Gunner Stiller, Kollektiv Turmstrasse – I could go on but you get the picture by now.

On Saturday March 8, Marek can be seen in de Melkweg, a place perfectly suitable for a concert/club night like this. It will be day four of 5 Days Off, the yearly recurring Amsterdam week-long music festivity – with Thusday’s Hot Since 82 event in Paradiso organized partly in collaboration with Jongens v/d Wereld, the band of like-minded music lovers that have gained a reputation for throwing the finer, cozy house parties in our city. The Jongens have collaborated with 5 Days Off for the Hot Since 82 club night in Paradiso on Tursday.
We hope you’ll join us next week during this special night, enjoying great music together with other electronic aficionados, dancing our ass off to the bumpin’, happy grooves of this amicable gentleman.
By the way: afterwards you only need to walk two steps to continue your Saturday night, with Julio Bashmore, Metro Area, Funkineven and other great artists playing in the other area.
