What to think of the Beatport Top 20?

As we look at 2014’s Beatport Top 20, it’s clear that a lot has changed over the past five years. The best selling tracks on Beatport are not ruled by EDM anymore. Not that the term ‘Deep House’ is being used quite like it should be, but the change surely means something positive. It’s a start when people are getting more interested in different kinds of music than the EDM sound, which is being debated, ridiculed and even demonized all too often. I, myself also started out with more commercial music than what I listen to now, simply because that is what ... Read more

Festival Report: Sandbox Festival (Egypt)

About two months ago we got an invite from Nacelle to join Luis Leon to their Sandbox Festival that was taking place on June 20th in Egypt at the North Coast. The festival, in cooperation with Heineken featured artists like Edu Imbernon, M.A.N.D.Y., Jan Blomqvist, Luis Leon and locals like Fulltone (LIVE). We were immediately enthusiastic about it, where other might have considered not to go because of past events in Egypt. It wasn’t that long ago when the Egyptian people stood up against their president and the social situation in the country turned into a state of chaos. The images ... Read more

Free Download: Tuff City Kids Remix ‘Dancing Home’

Over the past few months Tuff City Kids have been in and around our house – remember Daniel Bortz – Pictures remix- and since then they’ve stuck to us like bread on butter, and we can’t get enough jam to take them off. Exclusive Interview with Mees Dierdorp

Early in his life, Mees Dierdorp wondered how sound could influence the human body. While scratching with his grandmother’s record player, he communicated with the birds on the roof. Even hearing melodies in the woods between the trees, something had to be made, that much was clear. Mees is currently working on a variety of projects. Tricky Trio is his LIVE band, which merges acoustic and electronic energy in a lively new sound. As a solo artist, Mees mostly plays live sets that range from deep to light, from heavy to clear, from lingering to cheerful, always with a wink to soft or ...
