The Pick Up: Eats Everything

Photo credits: Timo Steenvoorden Today we’re excited to announce the launch of a new recurring photo series with The Pick Up. This series portrays exactly what the title implies: the trip that DJs make from airport or hotel to their designated gig location. As we are deluged with in-the-heat-of -the-moment shots of star DJs on center stage, fists pumping in the air in front of a mass of people, or a dime a dozen self-absorbed Instagram selfies, it’s high time to provide some counterbalance by capturing artists in the beauty of the mundane.  Before introducing our first artist we shortly want to introduce the two returning driving ... Amsterdam Nightmayor Runs Petition To Save City’s Festival Scene

Amsterdam’s night mayor Mirik Milan and a collective of like-minded influencers want to turn the tide on a negative development in Amsterdam’s festival culture via a petition called ‘Ik ben een Amsterdammer en ik ben voor festivals’, which translates as ‘I’m an Amsterdam citizen and I’m pro festivals’. The petition is needed, the pro festival advocacy group claims, because there is a false image amongst Amsterdam’s general population that dance festivals and other music-based outdoor events are harming the city in various ways, naming factors like “noise or waste pollution, the hours festivals can last”, says Milan. He continues that “There are pretty much always reasons to be found for wanting ... Read more

DHA x The Boom Room Present: James Zabiela @ Snowbombing

Last month we traveled to the Austrian Alps to visit Snowbombing. In the picturesque mountain town of Mayrhofen we braced for a week of top DJ and live acts, partying, local scenery and Wiener schnitzels. During DHA’s own stage hosting on the festival’s Saturday, we had the honour to have James Zabiela on the bill. At the Bruck n’ Stadl that night Zabiela gave away a spectacular show laced with tech-house and acid. Luckily our partners at The Boom Room were there to record his set so you can enjoy it too.  See also: Report – Snowbombing Festival [soundcloud url=”https://soundcloud.com/theboomroomofficial/098-the-boom-room-james-zabiela” comments=”true” ... First Ever ‘Skyrave’ To Take Place During Liberation Day

“Now what says freedom more than jumping out of a plane? Well, jumping out of a plane and then throwing a party in the air..” On Thursday’s Liberation Day a group of friends will undertake what is perhaps the boldest stunt of their lives, a ‘skyrave’. The guys in question will jump out of an airplane midair along with a Soundboks speaker that will blast some adrenaline-fused music to soundtrack the experience. They will do the jump above Enschede, a city in the East of the Netherlands, to then land in the middle of the city’s Bevrijdingsfestival.  The idea comes from Amsterdam-based agency Tosti Creative, who are ... Written and shot by Stimming himself, the below text and images briefly guide us through his thought- and execution process of Alpe Lusia’s music.  “Prepare” “This was the view I had nearly every morning. A new day, fresh cold air, morning dew on the grass, cows and their bells already active. ... Read more

Pittsburgh record store Jerry’s Records is again celebrating Record Store Day in the most generous way possible: by giving away 20,000 vinyl records for free.  To call the shop’s owner Jerry Weber a collector is not quite covering it, as Jerry has accumulated over one million records in his lifetime. “It will be about two or three times what I usually give out,” Weber told Post-Gazette. “I want to clear out the Bargain Basement a little.” That’s because the Bargain Basement contains over 100,000 records at the moment, which Jerry wants to have cleared out completely by the end of the year. Peep Show’s ‘Super Hans’ Is Gonna Start a DJ Career

Whoever has watched Peep Show, Channel 4’s highly successful pitch-black comedy about two flatmates and their bleak lives, ‘careers’ and romantic escapades, knows that one of its funniest side-characters is a guy called Super Hans. Super Hans, played by Matt King, is a nihilistic drug enthusiast and parttime musician that frequently drops by in the series, wreaking havoc in pretty much every situation he finds himself in. Even though the series ended late last year, the fanbase surrounding the show certainly didn’t. That’s why it comes as great news that Matt King has announced to be starting a DJ career this summer. Superhans DJing is ... Read more
