Full Premiere: GusGus – Airwaves (Tsepo Remix)
This summer Beatport announced a remix competition for ‘Airwaves’, the mesmerizing tune by Icelandic electronic formation GusGus, which came out earlier this year, falling to popular and critical acclaim – like many previous studio crafts of the golden trio. Like their recent opus ‘Crossfade’, ‘Airwaves’ was up for a remix package. Only this time it would be the result of a remix competition in collaboration with Beatport. The three winners of the competition got their track featured on the remix compilation. Our very own Dutchie Tsepo (aka Jan van der Lugt) however, was commissioned by Kompakt itself to do the remix, and turned the original into a futuristic, synth-laden piece of art. You can hear the full premiere of Tsepo’s remix below.
Next to producing, Tsepo – meaning hope in South African – has already been making a name for himself in the clubbing circuit of Amsterdam. With a residency at Nuno Dos Santos’s Something Happening Somewhere label nights for expample, or having turned the heads of influentials at club Trouw. As such, he has recently been installed as resident there and has already warmed up for the likes of Laurent Garnier and Michael Mayer.
Remix contest winner Maurice Valenzuela from Chile transformed Airwaves into what could be a house classic in the making. Marten Sundberg’s reanimation of Airwaves is an elegant roller that will appease any romantic into techno. Italy’s Manent was voted by the fans as being their favourite mix and we have to agree – he turned the cut into a peak time roller coaster that is fit for play in any DJ crate.
You can check out the full package of remixes on its release date: December 9 on Kompakt.
