It’s been an amazing two years for Straf_werk and with parties such as a sold out Deep House Closing in 2012, ‘DGTL’, the successful new collaboration with Pleinvrees and a massive stage at Amsterdam Open Air; it is time to host their own very first festival. On the 11th of August this house oriented festival will offer a nice mix of local and international names such as MANIK, David August, PillowTalk, Amine Edge, NOIR, Detroit Swindle, Prunk and PONY.
British duo Dusky will also be making an appearance; their successes include releases on Will Saul’s Aus and Breach’s Naked Naked which is enjoying great support by Radio1. Dusky’s 2013 set at Straf_Werk will be their biggest yet. Detroit Swindle is a good example of local talent with musical attitude and confidence. These guys have managed to combine music that mainly harks back to the 70’s with Detroit techno and contemporary influences. They have made a special podcast for us which has over 30.000 plays already. Not to be missed is another Dutch DJ who we have been talking a lot about recently – Tom Trago has also managed to distinguish himself because his sound is unique and refreshing – influences coming from ‘hip-hop, disco and soul’. Read the full interview with him where he talks about his new album, his influences and the music he enjoys having sex to.
Straf_werk, the once fledgling music collective began as an after party and has now established itself in the Amsterdam dance scene as one of the big players. Their solid bookings reflect contemporary house music tastes and their packed events have seen the return of a true club vibe. For an impression of the coming festival check out the podcast series of Chopstick and Johnjon, Detroit Swindle, Luis Leon and RAAF. Also for ADE this year they will have some special surprises in store along with the already announced party ‘Deep House Special’ which they organize together with Pleinvrees.
