Today a new industry player is born, as the ‘What Came First’ hits the record stores. What Came First is a new label set up by the people behind the infamous Egg London club venue, pledging its dedication to House music.

After the tragic closing of Fabric, the London clubbing institution, aims to gain the title of the new cities leading venue for electronic music. And in terms of their booking policy EGG LDN has been stepping their game up over the last couple of years, bringing in a selection of relevant talent to give ravers a great experience. With a particular stress on Saturday night curations (Keinemusik, wAFF, Route 94, Matthias Tanzmann, so on…) Egg is one of the most consistent clubs in the capital no doubt.

In over a decade of existence, Egg has played host to everyone from Pete Tong to Chris Liebing and, if anything, it would be easier to list the artists not to grace the venues turntables. However, the recent years the club curation has put an admirable amount of effort in recognising the up and coming talent and regardless of the genre and their effort has played out. Packed to capacity the club has developed a rather regular crowd that although hard to please, voices its seal of approval for those who repeatedly seem to meet their expectation.

The labels first release is from German-born Frag Maddin, who was an obvious choice after several seminal appearances at the London’s venue. Frag, who has previously released on Snatch!, Area Remote, Noir Music and Upon You Records.

The tracks blend smooth synth work and jacking grooves and represent the raw House groove. The slight bleak voice and the octave changes give a peculiar twist. It’s dreamy, slighly gloomy, while works straight on that ass moves.
