[Playlist] Chuck Daniel’s Ultimate Detroit

A sous chef of sound, Chuck Daniels serves up blends of jazz, techno and disco over a heavy base of house, then simmer with funk and soul.

With over 20 years experience in the industry, Daniels has enjoyed a number of notable highlights, including handing the decks over to his personal hero, Kenny Dope of Masters at Work, on a live-streamed Beatport boat party during Amsterdam Dance Event, playing alongside Magda at TV Lounge and proudly representing his hometown as part of Boiler Room’s Chicago vs. Detroit event series.

Now, Chuck can also add Beatport top selling producer to the list with his latest remix of Andy Toth & Billy Love‘s ‘Thrillseekers’ currently a hit off Seth Troxler’s Play It Say It. With that achievement moving through the summer, we had Chuck put together 10 of his seminal Detroit tracks. What are some of yours?

Aux 88 – Direct Drive

This was a record I played quite often. Almost anything released on Direct Beat at that time and by Aux 88 was in my collection. This was a big sound for me in my early years of DJ’ing parties.

Kenny Dixon Jr. – Emotional Content (Moodymann’s Mix)

Loved playing and listening to this record but I found the most joy hearing Terrance Parker work two together at early rave parties in Detroit. No one could drop it like him.

Daniel Bell – The Symphony (Can You Feel It)

I used to hear this record back in the day once in a while. I always wanted to know what it was. It wasn’t till many years later I finally found out. Probably my favorite Dan Bell tune. Dan is a beast.

Resse & Santonio – Bounce Your Body To the Box (Power Hit Mix)

One of my favorite records on KMS and Ironically they are celebrating 30 years in business this year. Kevin has always been one of my favorite Detroit DJ’s and his music has been a big influence.

Chris Simmonds – Rush n Soul

Although Chris is not from Detroit this one get’s an honorary mention. This track was so popular in the D that Mike Huckaby had Chris press up 100 more records after it’s release just to sell at Record Time. What’s even crazier is Chris allowed me to re-release this last year on my own label Sampled Detroit along with a few others.

Chez Damier – Can You Feel It (MK New York Dub)

Well it’s KMS’s 30th year Anniversary so here is another one. Always had big love for Marc Kinchen (MK) his remixes always worked the floor even in the more mainstream clubs I played at in the 90’s.

Mike Huckaby – The Jazz Republic

Another tune that never left my crate. Originally on Chris Simmonds label Cross Section. Mike just re released this on an Album of all his classic tunes. This is a must own.

Jeff Mills – The Bells

There was no way to hit a rave back in the day and not hear this record. I would have to say one of the most heard records out at it’s time of release. Such a fun record to play.

Detroit Grand Pubahs – Sandwiches

So true to the Detroit sound this was such a good record and so accurate to our sound. House, Techno or Booty call it what you want but it’s Detroit.

Aaron Carl – Down

Such a great tune from such a great guy. Unfortunately he left us too soon but his music will be here forever. This tune was well known for getting the party going often leading things to get down right dirt. Rest In Peace Aaron.
