Two of Hamburg’s finest exports, Adana Twins return to Watergate Records with their latest EP.
Here, the duo bring three stunning tracks of low slung, infectious music that blurs the line between House and Techno with an undeniable stroke of character.
Off the package, we’re exclusively premiering ‘Ortus’ – the packages more ‘up-beat’ selection, with dreamy arpeggios and shimmering atmospherics laid over a pulsing bassline resulting in a gorgeous number ideal for a number of memorable moments. Also, below you can find a bit of insight into the creative process behind the track and the entire EP as we managed to have a quick chat with the guys ahead of their release!
“Flower of Cane” is available 19 June on Watergate Records
What was the very first aspect of this EP that was its starting point? Was it a particular pattern, beat, theme…?
The general idea was to create an EP that fits into our ALLNIIGHT sets, where we play the entire night from beginning to the end. The track “Ortus” has this nice kick-off vibe that starts the night, “Flower of Cane” is peaktime material, and “Relentless” with vocals from our friend Jeppe Kjellberg from WhoMadeWho is for the early morning hours! Especially Ortus is a reminiscenes of the time when we started listening to electronic music in the 90’s. Today we meet so many of our old heroes on tour and this song is a way to say thanks to these guys.
Describe your relationship with Watergate as a label and a venue? How do they compliment you and vice versa?
Watergate is really important to us. We are huge fans of the club since the day it opened its doors and we had some of our best nights at this wonderful place. Their programme totally fits our style, credible but still true-to-life. Same goes for the label, they only release quality music! Being able to work together with them is a personal step of our musical career.
With the summer pretty much in full swing now, how do you guys keep yourself composed through its demands? Do you have any way to keep your mindfulness about you?
Benni has a seven month old baby and I try to practice yoga whenever I can 😉
On a similar note, what do you do after the summer in order to “wind down”?
Sometimes being home for a few days in a row is enough to wind down after a hectic period. But to be honest we love what we do and I would describe it as “positive stress”. No complaints here 😉
What are some events/releases/activities you have scheduled through the rest of the year (personal or professional) you are most looking forward to?
The same day our release on Watergate Records comes out, Suol releases a remix from us for Fritz Kalkbrenner’s “Changing Face”. Solomun created his own edit of our remix and a lot of guys are already playing it. There is another remix for our friends from WhoMadeWho in the pipeline, but we’re still waiting on the release date.
