Ben Prince grew up in the midlands and from the age of 16 was heavily involved in the local dance scene.
The local clubs VIP host to acts such as Joey Negro, Seamus Haji and more who regularly rocked the dance floors, he soon acquired a taste for everything dance related. Now a successful London promoter on the capitals nightlife, with events like Vertical and Avant Garde on his CV, we sat down with the man to find out how he made it to where he is today.
Ben Prince’s Undone and two of the foremost house labels of the day are teaming up for a special showcase party on June 19th at London’s Bankside Vaults. Those influential labels are Avotre and Gruuv, and the boss men and key artists representing them are Santé and Audiojack, Darius Syrossian and Sidney Charles, Philip Bader, Emanuel Satie and Cera Alba.
“It’s [Promotions] certainly harder due to the competition especially with every man and his dog promoting now.”.
You’re a promoter with a lot of experience on the London scene, can you tell us about how you got into the job in the first place?
I got into this through Djing on the circuit in London years ago. I played pretty much every weekend and pretty much just decided to throw my own party. So 4 months later I did for 1500 people at Proud2. It was literally the most stressful 4 months of my life.
What was your first real experience of electronic music?
I was 16 and went to college in Nottingham and I somehow fell into the hardhouse scene going to events with Lisa Lashes and Tidyboys. Looking back it was some of the best years I had clubbing but definitely couldn’t listen to that for longer than 5 minutes now. I also worked in a club called Careys from when I was 18 in my home town in Coventry. I used to look after the DJs such as Joey Negro, Sandy Rivera and others and still to this day it was the best vibe and club I’ve been to.
How do you think the job of Event Promoter has changed over the years?
It’s certainly harder due to the competition especially with every man and his dog promoting now. I think the main aspects with promoting would be the use of social media and apps. Gone are the days of flyering every shop in London.
You have an Undone Event coming up in London on the 19th June with showcases for the Avotre label and Gruuv label? How excited are you for this huge event and how did it come about?
Yeah I’m pretty hyped for this event. Darius, Sante and Sidney Charles are massively in demand at the moment especially in Ibiza so I’m happy to have this show in London. We tried to secure the Road to Ibiza show for London however that ended as soon as they landed in Ibiza so we opted for Avotre label showcase. The venue also is amazing. 2000 Capacity on the Thames with 4 arches and 3D Mapping. Should be pretty special.
Darius Syrossian, Santé, Sidney Charles, Audiojack and more come to the incredible Bankside Vaults, London on Friday June 19th, 2015.Tickets: http://ow.ly/NLp2p
