DeejayKul is a Spanish artist who has been active since the late 80s. He has maintained a strong presence within Spain’s music scene over the years, from DJing in clubs to producing music for commercials. He was an exponent of the country’s Blacktronica movement, fuelled by his love of soul, hip-hip and RnB and has a remix portfolio that is brimming with top flight artists. On Gold Fingers he puts a deep house twist on an old classic.
“Feeling Good” gets two rather nice mixes from the Spaniard, kicking off with his “DeejayKul meets Soultechnic Deepa Mix” – Soultechnic is his other alias and often manifests itself on ‘joint’ remixes with the DeejayKul name. With this version we get an infectious tribal beat bouncing over the silken vocals of a male singer uttering those immortal verses, “Birds in the sky, you know how I feel…“, you know the rest! Smooth keys combine with a squelchy, jovial baseline that channels p-funk.
Then we have the “Classic Love Deep Mix“, which has a more traditional house groove. Again, slightly retro-leaning, this time with a classic deep house b-line and bright, breezy pads interspersed with organ keys to add that real old school feel. The vocals sit on top of his well-crafted instrumental perfectly. Great for that ‘feel-good’ factor, a track that helps you forget all your stresses and sorrows. Uplifting, groovy and oh-so-fresh.
