No, this isn’t a Wunderground article. Brian Harding, who plays in the band Ex Cops recently wrote about a questionable statement he received during a McDonald’s pitch for their showcase this year at Austin USA’s SXSW Festival. The billion dollar company apparently had “no budget” to pay the artists playing at their stage. However, the company will hand out “free burgers” to all the artists involved.
Brian Harding made this post on Facebook this week that set off the snowball effect, which has put McDonald’s in another awkward position, yet again.
After Gawker published the news yesterday, they received an email from Global Media Relations director Becca Hary.
That may well be, but is it still #slownews when this story has exploded over the internet in the last 24 hours? We’re pretty sure that this can be categorized as a little PR mishap. Serving artists burgers and milkshakes instead of a nice paycheck when you’re a $90 bln Dow Jones company is just short of being cruel. We’re eager to see how McDonald’s marketing team is going to counter this one in the coming days. Perhaps with something similar like this.
