Mix #081 by Gorgon City
Two men, one mission: Gorgon City strut with a salubrious yet sordid sound. Their powerful and party-minded musical capabilities has already caught the ears of colleagues like Annie Mac, Diplo, Eats Everything and Mistajam. This UK twosome gets their inspiration from all sorts of styles, mainly house, garage and bass music. This results in some serious hip-swinging when these guys start to press play.
Starting out solo as RackNRuin and Foamo, Matt Robson-Scott and Kye Gibbon were both respected and renowned for their electrifying sets and productions. But now they’ve fused their experience to look for the deeper, sexier sounds that they’ve been excited about for years, but didn’t have the opportunity to explore yet. Their base, however, will always be jungle, house, grime and hip-hop, the music that Matt and Kye grew up with.
Currently taking up residence on Black Butter Records and Virgin EMI – the same label who gave us chart-smashing vibe maestros Rudimental – their unique funk fusion hints at club carnage but is executed with sleek, sonic sophistication.
They are already radio-backed by Radio 1, 1Xtra, Rinse FM, and with their summer smash singles ‘Real’ ft. Yasmin and ‘Intentions’ ft. Clean Bandit achieving ‘Record Of The Week’ on Radio 1. Add that to the support slots for Rudimental, B-Traits & Chase & Status and countless gigs across the UK, these guys have nothing to worry about in 2014.
So ladies and gentlemen, without further ado, turn up the volume and let this mixtape be the window to your weekend.
