Constantly balancing on the edge of reality is Nathan Surreal, who presents a mix showcasing the density of his mixing architecture – provocative illusions, deviating rhythms, hypnotic structures, dense textures, and deep grooves.
With a sound that’s influenced by Chicago house and Detroit techno, Nathan merits an obvious African touch to his work. The founder of KMS Records, the legendary Kevin Saunderson, noticed Nathan in 2014, when he released his ‘Binary Omania‘ EP on his Detroit-based label. Nathan also released on DJ 3000‘s Motech Records and on Coincidence Recordings, with remix duty by Eduardo De La Calle. Coming up is a vinyl EP release at the infamous Midnight Shift.
Nathan is a frequently seen guest artist here in Amsterdam, appearing at venues such as Radion and formerly appearing at the now defunct Closure. Next to this he is the founder and curator of Kommune, a movement that has held parties at Cruquiusgilde, Ruigoord and OT301. Alongside his artistic talents, he’s deeply ingrained with his knowledge in music, recently finishing a Bachelor in Music Technology. He also shares this passion with others – teaching at the Herman Brood Academie in Utrecht and at a public school in Amsterdam.
