DHA FM Mix #446 by Jas Shaw

In early 2018, Jas Shaw, one half of electronic duo Simian Mobile Disco, was diagnosed with a rare, health condition – AL amyloidosis – a disorder of bone marrow cells. Having just completed SMD’s 7th studio album, Murmurations, and with a special show at the Barbican with the Deep Throat Choir scheduled for April and the album due out in May, things were thrown into confusion. At the time, no one, including Shaw, knew how the treatment and prognosis would pan out. Jas had to start chemotherapy treatment almost immediately, which meant canceling SMD’s live touring. The duo decided to go ... Read more

It wasn’t before long or Mairo Nawaz immersed himself in Hip-Hop and R&B in his teens, but never felt like an old archeologist when he dusted off his family’s old record collections and tried to find a correlation with the modern electronic music of today. He brought this enthusiasm to connect the olden and modern dots ... Read more

DHA FM Mix #434 by Ivan Smagghe

Ivan Smagghe belongs to a top table of DJs that journalists like to describe as “The DJ’s DJ”. Along with the likes of occasional partner-in-crime Andrew Weatherall, Ivan has the ability to play music like a raw conduit between his famously obscure records and the dancefloor’s strobe-soaked bodies, injecting something of himself seamlessly into the mix along the way. His genre-defying/defining production work originally in Black Strobe and now in It’s A Fine Line and Smagghe & Cross has connected him to and garnered the praise of (amongst others) James Murphy, Trevor Jackson, Ata, Optimo, and the aforementioned Weatherall. “Pretty mysterious but that’s not the appeal. Super diverse stylistically, but that’s not it either! – indeed you’ll uncover little about Stump Valley using the well-worn tool of the internet, but what you do after hearing all of their tracks on the dancefloor, is chilling out and listen to them again.” Jordan Czamanski from Juju & Jordash Raised from the ashes of an old project, Stump Valley is a little village in the countryside, where deers and boars run free in the street.
