Paradise Garage To Be Honored In New Film
A movie about seminal New York City club and Larry Levan is now in production.
The film will be Written and Directed by Jonathan Ullman (Trouble in the Heights) and is simply called Paradise Garage. Previously, Ullman directed a 15 minute short film on the space, which you can see below. In the film, the part of Levan will be played by British actor Kobna Holdbrook-Smith, while staff member Joey Lanos (also a consultant on the film) will be played by Rayniel Rufino.
Of the project, Ullman states:
“The stories of The Garage speak volumes about the human spirit…how people were brought together by a love and passion, both on the dancefloor and in the DJ booth, all set against a backdrop of unity and diversity. This film is both a celebration and a dramatic tale, wrapped around a killer soundtrack that defined an era.”
And on the legacy of Larry Levan:
“[Larry Levan’s] contributions go far beyond just his song selection at the Paradise Garage…it was his fearlessness as a DJ and remixer that has endeared him to generations of fans around the world.”
As of press time the film does not have a release date, but keep up to date with it HERE
