MK is responsible for creating some of the defining sounds and biggest tracks of early House.
Through his timeless productions, underground credibility, and work with the biggest international artists like Jay-Z and Rihanna, MK has influenced a new generation of producer, with the result that his sound is more relevant today than it ever has been.
MK will be quite busy over the next few months…well, honestly he’s the kind of DJ who is always busy, which is a good thing. You can catch MK at the ultimate party on snow, Snowbombing 2017 in Mayrehofen April 3-8. If you’re in the US, you can catch MK on his North American Tour alongside Shiba San through March. Here, MK dishes on a wide range of topics, from the aforementioned events, to his take on ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story,’ and even dabbling in a bit of politics.
“I can understand that there is a lot to be upset about now, but my view is that you play more now and find a way to get the message through.”
In April you will be joining the festivities at Snowbombing Festival….
Yes! .. I am really looking forward to playing the festival this year!
What is your relationship like with the event? Have you played before? If so, what are your memories of Mayrehofen, Austria?
I played the Festival back in 2015 and it was a lot of fun, I’d never seen a show in an Igloo before, that was one of the craziest places I’ve ever seen a DJ set….the vibe was great. I didn’t even think about the cold weather, I had such a good time.
Do you partake in skiing, snowboarding, and the likes?
Unfortunately, I don’t ski, but I like the snowmobiles!
What would you say is the ultimate “cold weather” track for such an occasion?
I guess I might have to play one of my classic records “Burning” to heat things up
You recently launched a US tour alongside Shiba San. What is it about Shiba San that complements your own way of DJing?
He comes from a very cool hip-hop background and has a different sound to me, but we complement each other very nicely. I really like his music and he is a nice guy too
Any dates you are particularly looking forward to on the tour?
I think that Brooklyn, Denver, Washington D.C. Austin, Boston, Miami and Philadelphia are going to be standouts, it’s hard to say since I think the whole run is going to be great fun.
Or, any individual dates for yourself that you are particularly excited for?
I think that my Portland date with Kill Frenzy and my dates in Phoenix and Canada are going to be really cool.
