Lente Kabinet 2018: The Maturing, But Ever So Rebellious Little Sister

It’s 11:30 in the morning on a Saturday as we quickly finish our coffee and hop on the bike to set out for one of the best festivals this season. We set a course due North, away from the sprawling capital of modern dance music, into its hinterlands. As houses become fewer and further in between, the landscape becomes greener as we paddle our way over an ever-increasing number of dikes and bridges; a sign indicating we’ve now officially left Amsterdam is overshadowed by a much smaller, bright red & yellow sign below it, pointing us where we need to ... Arnhem: Amsterdam’s Underground Alternative

When one thinks of Dutch nightlife, Amsterdam is the city most likely to come to mind. However, there are more places in Holland with a booming house and techno scene. Take for example the city of Arnhem. In recent years, it developed itself from dormant and quiet to a city that enlists organizations such as 8Bahn, Free Your Mind, Studio Sonsbeek and ABSTRACT as active participants in showing the world that Arnhem also has a party mentality. A change that hasn’t gone unnoticed. In August 2017, Electronic Beats was the first to release an article featuring photo’s taken inside some ... Read more

Party Report: Amsterdam Open Air 2016

Needless to say Amsterdam Open Air Festival got really lucky with the weather on both of its days, as it tends to do year in and year out. Saturday seemed to lean slightly more towards hip-hop, pop and Caribbean electronic music acts, however there was always the Straf_Werk stage to run to for all the true house aficionados. The line-up was solid: Finnebassen started, with Jonas Rathsman following up with an unusually light set for him, perfectly fitting for the midday. He was followed by, apparently, a great fit of Nuno Dos Santos and Tsepo playing a B2B sunset set, finished ... Read more

Preview: All We Want Festival 2016

To those who have never raved at AWW, we’d like to provide you our insight on the festival’s experience. Upon arrival, you’ll enter a small, cosy town blazoned with relaxing vibes and 1969 Woodstock nostalgia. The spacious park allows ravers to chill, dance, and enlighten their inner-social-butterfly, while the beautiful surroundings invite everyone to soak up a holiday feeling. As for the stages – each one has its own comfort and aesthetic. At one moment you may feel like a modern-day raver version of St. Francis of Assisi, partying alongside a 12th century monastery, while another moment you’ll be shuffling the sand between your toes inside of what seems to be Wilbur’s Barn. At night, sand footsie in the barn is still ... Read more

‘DSTRCT’ Kicks Off Warehouse Adventure At Elementenstraat

The legendary Warehouse Elementenstraat has had a relatively short but illustrious history to it. Basically an unused and desolate warehouse, the hall was taken over by rave-instigators Multigroove in ’91, which introduced hardcore and other rough genres to the Amsterdam public. Sadly. After only one and a half years, the authorities shut down the unofficial yet hugely celebrated club. But The Warehouse has made a significant return to Amsterdam’s nightlife after four stunning events that were hosted by HYTE during last month’s ADE. Already re-discovered in 2012 by GZG, a collaboration of techno artists, the venue was bound to make ... Read more

Dekmantel Festival 2014 – Report

After a long build-up and red hot anticipation, both national as international, last weekend it was finally time for Dekmantel Festival 2014. What we saw and heard over the two days we were there, Friday & Sunday, was pretty much as good as it gets in the Netherlands, and it definitely showed that the organization has gone through lengths to not only correct the mistakes of last year, but to also improve on a lot of fronts. The result was a three-day musical paradise with international allure. In the months prior to the festival it became clear that Dekmantel wasn’t ... Read more

When you can just feel the energy without even looking” We had a chat with Cinnaman, a significant Amsterdam local who has earned his stripes in our nightlife within a short period of time. You can’t really define Cinnaman’s style. It’s somewhere between the spectrum of House, Garage, UK Funky and Detroit Techno. If it sounds good and if it’s a bit out of the ordinary, there’s a good chance that Cinnaman has a taste for it. In our interview with him he talks about the logic behind his name, ... Read more

Follow The Path To Valhalla

Last year, around this time, Amsterdam was introduced to a new winter festival. It was one of BIG proportions, bringing together different crowds and styles of house and techno. They created a vibe that was larger than that of a good party; there was something more going on that night. There was a state of Valhalla. Next week, on Saturday December 21st, the organization is back for their second edition, ‘Valhalla, A Bizarre Ride’ which will again take place in the only venue that can handle the ambitions of an event like this: The Amsterdam RAI. The RAI will be turned ... Read more
