DHA FM Mix #445 by Mairo Nawaz

Mairo Nawaz certainly is that new breed of young, talented and up-and-coming DJ from Amsterdam. Growing up listening to his mother’s reggae and grandmother’s Soul and Jazz music, he started drumming at the age of ten and showed musical talents at an early age. It wasn’t before long or Mairo Nawaz immersed himself in Hip-Hop and R&B in his teens, but never felt like an old archeologist when he dusted off his family’s old record collections and tried to find a correlation with the modern electronic music of today. He brought this enthusiasm to connect the olden and modern dots ... Read more

Interview: Umfang

Born in New York City, raised in the Mid West, and now a staple of Brooklyn’s underground electronic scene, Umfang’s amorphous polyrhythmic Techno productions have been felt everywhere from Ninja Tune to Dekmantel. The co founder of the Discowman collective, and monthly resident of Brooklyn’s Technofeminism concept since 2012, consistently enjoys playing with people’s expectations of how a Techno set can be defined. With a political edge rooted in 21st Century ideals that push history, diversity, and accessibility throughout a still male-dominated industry, Umfang’s willingness to break the template has set her, and the multitude of emerging talents she has ... DHA Profiles: Nasser Baker

I met Nasser Baker a couple of weeks ago on one of the first truly nice days of the Amsterdam season (which just happened to follow the day long national celebration that is Kingsday). Despite a mild touch of the post party blues, it was still the perfect day for a musical stroll through some of Amsterdam’s best record shops, and with one of the dance industry’s freshest faces. I knew a bit about Nasser beforehand, especially that he was the latest protege of Objektivity boss Dennis Ferrer, the dance music icon who can boast a similar title when referencing ... Read more

Two New Amsterdam Venues Obtained 24-hour Licences

The initiative of the Amsterdam’s Night Mayor institution to put a 24-hour economy running has been showing results. Two more locations – Nachtlab (Warehouse Elementenstraat) and Ven Amsterdam – joins the city’s exclusive 24-hour licence club. In total now there are seven venues in Amsterdam who can determine their opening hours: De School, Radion, Tolhuistuin, Overkant, A’dam-Toren, De Koning Party Events and DOKA. In the beginning of May this year, Amsterdam’s municipality opened a new round of applications for obtaining the 24-hour licence. As the Nachtburgemeester claims, two initiatives stood out most – Ven Amsterdam and Nachtlab. Nachtlab, of which the acclaimed industrial venue Warehouse Elementenstraat is part of, is a complex of offices, recording and production studios dedicated to entrepreneurs ... Read more

Seth Troxler To Record Live Essential Mix From NYC

The third ever live recorded essential mix from the US will happen on 23 September with the one and only Seth Troxler taking the resigns from Brooklyn’s techno den Output. Following in the footsteps of Pete Tong and Richie Hawtin (Los Angeles) and Claude vonStroke, MK, Eats Everything, and Eric Prydz (Miami), Seth will also be supported by Dennis Ferrer, Eli Escobar, and Tong himself. For those unaware, Output (in my opinion) is New York City’s finest club. A no photo style venue on the outskirts of Williamsburg. With this Essential Mix’ first ever trip to New York, it also ...
