Premiere: Ashtar Lavanda - Marfa Lights (Original Mix)

Back in 2014, Ultramajic’s Jimmy Edgar received information about an East Detroit storage unit containing vintage recording equipment and historical items of Detroit Techno. Out of the, at least 1000, vinyl records and some miscellaneous recording equipment, Jimmy came into the possession of over 100 DAT and 1/4” reel tapes. One box contained meticulously dated tapes from 1995 -1998 with sharpie inscription “ASHTAR LAVANDA”. After nearly two years, Jimmy and Ultramajic managed to connect with Ashtar and now presents the music to you. With the release of “Unsolved Mysteries,” and upcoming musical archives, Ashtar will be known as one of ... Read more

DHA Mix #300 By Spoetnik

Amsterdam’s Spoetnik is best described as a purveyor of  undeniable groove. The artistic project of the city’s club shelter staple, the sound of Spoetnik draws its influence from across the musical spectrum – from dubby and rousing, to tribalesque and organ-churning house. Think of it as a tour the best of classic-era House has to offer from late eighties to early nineties New York, mixed with classic Chicago house and more contemporary Detroit work. On this exclusive mix, the 300th (!) on DHA, of rare and hard to find gems, Spoetnik gives all you crate diggers and starting point, describing it ... Read more

Party Report: Movement Detroit 2017

As we start the “warm up” festivities on Thursday at T.V. Lounge in Detroit, we are happily surprised how everyone is so welcoming and nice. Motor City, as everyone should know, is the birthplace of techno and even at 9pm, 7pm or whatever time of the night, we get some techno beats in the face and we love it. The venue is nothing fancy, the speakers look like they’re custom made, it looks more like a bar than a club but it has such a real feel to it, we enjoy the place very much. T.V Lounge is the Staple ... Read more

Elderly People Becoming Big Attraction At Festivals

It’s becoming somewhat of a trend on social media, footage of elderly people dancing like they’re 22 again at festivals. Just two weeks ago Holland’s very own ‘House Opa’ stole the show at Edit Festival in Haarlem. His moves were all over Facebook, and he’s been popping up before after attending other festivals and dance parties regularly. Other colourful characters of age have made equal name for themselves in other places like Berlin and Detroit. Here’s a small testimony to these people, who are showing youngsters that loving and dancing to dance music shouldn’t have an expiration date. Back in ... Read more

Video: ‘They Call Me Grandma Techno’

After we reported on a little hero last week, we thought it was a good occasion to introduce you to one who has walked the earth a little bit longer. Meet Patricia Lay-Dorsey, a 72-year old American photographer, who has been practically unable to walk after she was struck by multiple sclerosis. Many may think of this disease as hugely disabling, Patricia is actually more actively outgoing than your average 20-year old. Especially when it comes to music and festivals, because ‘Grandma Techno’ is somewhat of a dance music fanatic. While covering Detroit’s Movement festival back in 2005, totally unaware ... Read more

Review: Alexi Delano & Shaun Reeves – The Breeze EP

Shaun Reeves, one of the key figures of the Visionquest tribe, has teamed up with minimal veteran Alexi Delano for a tour-de-force in the form of ‘The Breeze EP’. It consists of two deeply mystifying cuts and a remix by Thomas Merlchior. Alexi Delano was born in Chile, raised in Sweden and then lived in New York for some time. This has granted him a musical style that combines the compressed elements of the Scandinavian style with the ingenuity of the Brooklyn sound. Being in the game for more than two decades now, Delano has a firm grasp on his ... Read more
