The (Unsurprisingly Terrible) Electronic Music Awards Nominees Are Announced

A few weeks ago, we learned that something called the “Electronic Music Awards And Foundation” (EMAF) existed and was airing its Grammy-esque award show on Fox sometime in late April. Though marketed as the “first” award show for electronic music, perhaps a better approach would be the first televised award show, the EMAF has now announced the nominees in each of their, suitably redundant 7 categories. Amongst the categories are your standard Album and Single of the Year, as well as accolades to Best Festival and Best Club. There’s not much insight into the nomination process and what exactly constitutes ... Read more

Hear Dixon’s Givenchy Runway Soundtrack From Paris Fashion Week

Paris Fashion Week may be a lot of things, but underground electronic music locale is not necessarily one of them. That said, it came with a certain surprise when it was announced Innervsions‘ main man and RA’s reigning #1 DJ Dixon supplied the soundtrack to the 2016/17 Givenchy fall and winter men’s showcase. Following Givenchy’s tapping of The Martinez Brothers at their 2014 and 2015 events, the French design house has now been a strong supporter of the connection between electronic music and fashion. With this year’s collection holding dark tones and pops of patterns and color, the well received (we’ll take ... Read more

Watch A Pre-Fame Dixon Discuss The Art Of The DJ Persona

A little throwback for you from the year 2012. It was around this time that the dominant underground dance sound had fully developed into a warmer aesthetic than we had come to know in the decade before. It was the year after Dixon’s game-changing edit of Osunlade’s “Envision” came out, leaving dance floors in nothing but smouldering rubble the world over.  By then, both Dixon and Innervisions were on the tipping point of becoming the driving forces in quality dance music, claiming consecutive #01 Beatport chartings and RA DJ poll placements. Not to mention the anthems that the label’s creator was about to ... Read more

And the jury’s out. The Resident Advisor Top 100 DJ poll has just been announced. Party Report: Adriatique (All Night)

Last Saturday saw Amsterdam’s NGHTDVSN & De Marktkantine  host one of dance music’s finest duos, Adriatique who graced a packed crowd with, what was surely, a very special open to close set. The Swiss Adrians have been nothing short of a phenomenon since joining forces in 2008. They have released on a who’s who of the world’s finest labels including their native city’s Cityfox, Brooklyn’s Wolf + Lamb, and, of course, Solomun’s mighty Diynamic, of which they are a seminal member of the family (and thus, no strangers to the city of Amsterdam). This was the first time I had experienced Adriatique ... Read more
