Interview: Swayzak

Continuing to champion the rogue sensibility that united Swayzak over 20 years ago, David Brown presents a retrospective of works from the past 20 years – ‘Lost Tapes’. Formed in 1993, Swayzak immediately dedicated themselves to pursuing innovative music, guided by their passion for the times’ DIY spirit. This approach informed the (then) duo’s position as live performers and DJs, and remains a core tenet of the project since the duo split in 2011. By that point, Swayzak built a discography with releases on labels like Fabric, M_Nus, Curle Recordings, Ellum Audio and !K7. With that, ‘Lost Tapes’ spans a ... Read more

Life After Fabric

Is it time for London to move on? If so, what is the best path to move forward? In the wake of the iconic club’s closure, how best can London’s nightlife begin moving forward.  In the past few months the London music community has gone through the first four stages of grief over the closing of Fabric. At this stage the fact that the decision was reactionary as well as completely counter to progress is well documented, with even London’s mayor speaking out about the decision. However, it now seems that the city may have become stuck in the fourth stage; depression, ... Vienna Now Deems All Clubs As Culturally Signficant

The high culture in nightlife wars continue to rage on after the well documented troubles of London’s fabric, Chicago’s nightclubs,  and the triumph of Berlin’ Berghain’s status of cultural importance. Now, a new city: Vienna, has come to the night world’s aid, deeming ALL their nightclubs to be spaces of cultural significance and thus ridding them of the country’s 15% “entertainment tax” (it should be noted this tax only pertained to dance events and not to “standing room” style concerts. As an example, an Austrian musician was fined some €10,000 because too many people were dancing at his show). The tax ... Read more

Seth Troxler To Record Live Essential Mix From NYC

The third ever live recorded essential mix from the US will happen on 23 September with the one and only Seth Troxler taking the resigns from Brooklyn’s techno den Output. Following in the footsteps of Pete Tong and Richie Hawtin (Los Angeles) and Claude vonStroke, MK, Eats Everything, and Eric Prydz (Miami), Seth will also be supported by Dennis Ferrer, Eli Escobar, and Tong himself. For those unaware, Output (in my opinion) is New York City’s finest club. A no photo style venue on the outskirts of Williamsburg. With this Essential Mix’ first ever trip to New York, it also ...
