Interview: DJ Boring

Comprised of simple, melodramatic chords, modulated acidic klangs, a syncopated, chilled out 909 groove, and (of course) a now iconic sample, DJ Boring burst onto the Dance Music scene in 2016 with the viral hit ‘Winona’. A track as much academic in defining the ennuie of a new dance music generation, as it is laid back. In an era defined by insecurity and judgement, and where few are able to make an imprint, ‘Winona’ bucked the trends that all one needs is a proper marketing apparatus, instead going back to the time tested truth that talent and approach will always ... Mix #187 By Detroit Swindle

We’re happy to have one of our favourite Amsterdam acts back for another mix: Detroit Swindle. Detroit Swindle was formed in 2011 by Lars Dales and Maarten Smeets. The duo started 0ut for dubious reasons, namely when Lars – who was programming a few nightclubs in Amsterdam – had to fire Maarten for playing too much underground music. They started talking and found out they had a mutual love for Motown, hip-hop and early house music. Not long after, they started making music together and the rest as they say, is history. China’s Great Wall To Host Underground Music Festival

China’s Great Wall has been the site of many things over the years. With construction dating back to 700 BC, it is one of the world’s most recognised structures, and the only one man-made visible from the stratosphere.  The wall has acted as a defence between ancient warring factions, as well as a preeminent tourist destination and cultural landmark. Now, underground electronic music venue can be added to that list. As a country, China is mostly associated with the sounds of EDM, but with a population over 1 billion, it is only natural to find pockets of the citizenry who indulge in the more underground side of electronic music. ... As fate willed, he was also programming at a club where Maarten occasionally played. It all started when the club;s owners wanted Lars to fire Maarten for playing music considered “too underground”. The two got to talking and soon decided to get in the studio every on a weekly basis and the ... Read more
