Interview: Aril Brikha

Stockholm’s (by way of Iran) Aril Brikha has never been one to conform to the musical trends of the day. Brikha demonstrated his musicality early; at seven, given a keyboard; in his early teens developed an interest in electronic music – Depeche Mode, Front 242 and Jean Michel Jarre. By 17, he was using an Atari and composing his own compositions that friends dubbed “Detroit Techno”. Since those days Aril has had an interesting, non conformist career, releasing early on Swedish imprint Dunkla, Plump, and Placktown, followed by Derrick May’s Transmat label, Kompakt, Music Man, Poker Flat, and finally on ... Amsterdam Open Air Podcast #002 By &ME

One could assume, &ME entered the world of House and Techno somewhat out of the blue, but unsurprisingly it is truly due to a sublime modesty prominently captured in his alias.  &ME’s way of becoming one of today’s most praised and sought after DJ/producers is based on a solid foundation of respect, talent, and hard work across the spectrum of contemporary dance music platforms. Delivering beats for Terranova (alongside Fetisch), releasing material on Kompakt and Saved Records, his project NR& with fellow producer Rampa and singer Nomi (Hercules & Love Affair, Jessica 6) are just a few milestones of the past, with recent studio work coming by way of remixing the likes ... Far from your typical laptop-reliant producers; ... Read more

Amsterdam Open Air Festival Podcast #001 By Borrowed Identity

With roots in Romania but living in Germany, Borrowed Identity’s name says a lot about his life. His musical upbringing was a melange of ethnic music from friends, weird stuff from local libraries and whatever else he could find in record stores and on the internet, explaining the fact he makes anything from classical to ambient, house to techno, experimental to electro, hiphop to pop music. Inspired by DJs and producers from Larry Levan to DJ Harvey, Moodymann to Larry Heard, Robert Hood to Basic Channel, this man has so far released already on labels like Mistress Recordings, Quintessentials, Home ...
