How We Lost Our Sense Of Time In This Polish Forest

Rays of light break through the thick forestation as a stream gently runs through the undergrowth. As a bird shoots from one branch to the next, the forest feels empty and deserted. It feels almost perfectly tranquil. But there is a sound in the distance disturbing that tranquillity.  A faint thump pounding in a rhythmic fashion. As we follow the light coming through the tree canopies, another shape slowly starts to materialize. The shape grows bigger the more we approach the exit of the thicket, and as we get closer, so does the sound get louder. The forest opens up ... Read more

Arnhem: Amsterdam’s Underground Alternative

When one thinks of Dutch nightlife, Amsterdam is the city most likely to come to mind. However, there are more places in Holland with a booming house and techno scene. Take for example the city of Arnhem. In recent years, it developed itself from dormant and quiet to a city that enlists organizations such as 8Bahn, Free Your Mind, Studio Sonsbeek and ABSTRACT as active participants in showing the world that Arnhem also has a party mentality. A change that hasn’t gone unnoticed. In August 2017, Electronic Beats was the first to release an article featuring photo’s taken inside some ... Read more

Premiere: Red Axes - Sun My Sweet Sun (Fango Goes To Bollywood Remix)

While Red Axes’s ode to the sun is still running strong one and a half years after its release, its now time for the remix package! Including work from German wunderkind Konstantin Sibold and the Axes’ boys themselves, it is one of two from (DHA favorite) Fango as he turns the original into a rough beat version just to drop the melody in the break for maximum dancefloor mayhem. Here, we’re premiering the Solomun and Dixon approved remix of Red Axes’ ‘Sun My Sweet Sun,’ as Fango Goes to Bollywood Remix. This remix also comes on the heels of Fango’s ... Read more

Festival Bucket List: Paradise City Festival

When it comes to large scale events, the “best of” conversation tends to swing itself towards areas of high subjectivity…how we define what we “like”? How our personal finances affect our decisions? What kind of core values do we look for? Many questions, none of which with easy answers. Well, with that in mind, we’re hoping to put a few events on your radar that are (admittedly) subjective to our writer’s tastes, but with a focus on all of its aspects. Hopefully it will make your decisions easier, highlight some interesting festivals you may not yet be familiar with, highlight ... Read more

Preview: All We Want Festival 2016

To those who have never raved at AWW, we’d like to provide you our insight on the festival’s experience. Upon arrival, you’ll enter a small, cosy town blazoned with relaxing vibes and 1969 Woodstock nostalgia. The spacious park allows ravers to chill, dance, and enlighten their inner-social-butterfly, while the beautiful surroundings invite everyone to soak up a holiday feeling. As for the stages – each one has its own comfort and aesthetic. At one moment you may feel like a modern-day raver version of St. Francis of Assisi, partying alongside a 12th century monastery, while another moment you’ll be shuffling the sand between your toes inside of what seems to be Wilbur’s Barn. At night, sand footsie in the barn is still ... Read more

Electronic Bands And Dutch DJs To Be Expected At Turn Out City Night

Similar to the the trend in the Netherlands, our Southern neighbour is also spawning a range of dance music communities and promoters for those smaller cities that you wouldn’t necessarily associate with the dance scene. Nevertheless, it’s those projects that are the backbone of the proliferation of underground music. Not all good electronic music, parties and festivals from Dutch soil are exclusive to Amsterdam, and the same goes for Belgium and its cultural hotspots Antwerp and Brussels. One of those examples in practice is SOBER, one of the new promoters in Belgium’s bustling nightlife, who have made successful attempts in putting ... Read more

Festival Report: Pleinvrees Heroes

In the days leading up to last weekend, the stacked festival landscape saw itself somewhat worried with heavy rains in the forecast. Rain is something that seemingly comes with the territory here in Amsterdam, where only the heaviest of downpours can cancel the show (see July’s Welcome to the Future). See also: Bad Weather Conditions Get Festivals Cancelled Though the field was muddy, the skies were grey, and temperatures low, the Pleinvrees faithful were given a spot of luck when Friday seemed to take the brunt of the bad weather leaving Saturday (relatively) dry. With a professional and experienced crew ... Read more
