‘DSTRCT’ Kicks Off Warehouse Adventure At Elementenstraat

The legendary Warehouse Elementenstraat has had a relatively short but illustrious history to it. Basically an unused and desolate warehouse, the hall was taken over by rave-instigators Multigroove in ’91, which introduced hardcore and other rough genres to the Amsterdam public. Sadly. After only one and a half years, the authorities shut down the unofficial yet hugely celebrated club. But The Warehouse has made a significant return to Amsterdam’s nightlife after four stunning events that were hosted by HYTE during last month’s ADE. Already re-discovered in 2012 by GZG, a collaboration of techno artists, the venue was bound to make ... Read more

Review: Eastern Electrics Festival

Over the last couple of years Eastern Electrics has evolved from its warehouse-based roots, into a fully-fledged large-scale festival event. Last year they were maybe a little too ambitious, throwing a three-day event with camping options at Knebworth Park in Hertfordshire with a ridiculously big line-up. It ended up backfiring in a major way with the company behind Eastern Electrics going into liquidation after the event. This year they came back with a one-dayer, learning from last year’s mishap and, understandably, playing it a little safer. Even so, the line-up was still a mouthwatering prospect with Derrick Carter, Kerri Chandler, ... Read more

Review: Burnski & MANIK – YJG

MANIK and Burnski, two names that (should) ring bells with deephouse enthusiasts all over the world. These two producers are pioneers of the new deep house sound. With an unmistakeable feel for groove they have delivered another masterpiece with ''Yellow Jacket Girl'', shortened to ''YJG''. It is MANIK's fourth release already on Culprit LA, making him a true resident producer for the prestigious LA-based label. And even though Burnski never released anything of his own on Culprit, his appraised remix of Subb-An's ''What I Do'' lifted moods to higher levels all summer and his previous collaborations with MANIK pretty much ...
