The Artistic Revolution Of DGTL AMS

Amsterdam’s annual Easter weekend festival – DGTL – has grown steadily in its 5+ years in the Dutch capital. So much so in fact, the brand has since gone global with renowned events across multiple continents including in Barcelona, Tel Aviv, São Paulo, and the recently announced Santiago, Chile. Here however, housed in its industrial home of Amsterdam-Noord’s graffiti and shipping container laden NDSM, the flagship early spring event acts as an unofficial kickoff of sorts to The Netherlands’ robust and diverse festival season. Across its weekender structure, renowned artists representing the spectrum of underground electronic music can be experienced, with the ... Read more

Draaimolen Festival Headlines Maceo Plex, Tale Of Us, David August & More

Tilburg’s Draaimolen Festival is up for its second edition on the last Saturday of the summer. Last year’s sold-out debut already saw the likes of Jeff Mills, Joris Voorn, Noir, Recondite and Ben Sims coming through, but now the organization promised its fanbase to set up a festival with an eye on established international artists from the house scene as well. They have succeeded in doing so, with a line-up containing almost exclusively the most sought-after headliners, Maceo Plex, Tale Of Us, KiNK, Pachanga Boys, David August and DJ Tennis. The team behind Draaimolen – which is known for a ... Read more

Full Premiere: Jaap Ligthart – I Know Change (Show-B Remix)

Selador, the independent underground label spearheaded by Dave Seaman & Steve Parry, may be just two years young, but they have built quite the repertoire of artists, and their 24th release is one by Dutchman Jaap Jigthart titled “I Know Change”, which has Alice Rose on vocals. The original – which is pure Deep House goodness, in every sense of the word, showcases Jaap’s diversity in production. Alice Rose, a vocalist who has featured on tracks by Gabriel Ananda, as well as Eagles & Butterflies, complements this track perfectly with very intense and sensuous vocals. There’s a late night vibe ... Read more

On Friday the third of April, a special opening night has been added to the ... Read more

Top 100 RA Charted Tracks Of 2014

And we’re going to steadily continue with a range of yearly lists as we reach the end of 2014. Next to its DJ ranking, RA has another top 100 that acts as a barometer of the development of the underground dance scene in the last 12 months: the top 100 charted tracks by DJs. Okay, it might not be as big of a hype or as controversial as the top 100 DJs, but the tracks in this list and the records they can be found on are a peer reviewed musical documentation of what sounded great, relevant and cutting edge. ... 2014 Resident Advisor DJ Poll Results

As you could probably tell by some blatantly touting DJ posts last week, it was that time again: the yearly RA poll for best DJ. Every year the poll tries to give a fair and balanced impression of the state of the underground dance music scene. Weighed in are both the votes of RA users and those of a panel by RA itself. Just like last year, we’re sure that there will be plenty of discussion going on about the positions of relative newcomers in regard to the (often lower) spots held by some of the legends in the esteemed ranking. But hey, it’s a ... Read more

Exclusive Interview With Noah Pred

“Records have such a short shelf life in the market nowadays, you need to get creative with keeping people interested beyond the first few weeks” After performing live for over a decade in the underground hotspots of Toronto, Canada, Noah Pred, also the founder of Thoughtless Music, can now view himself as a sought-after DJ in Europe too, after making the leap to Europe some years ago. Last week we took a guess on which tracks would make it big in Ibiza this summer. Now Shazam has come out with the preliminary results of the ‘Most Shazamed Tracks in Ibiza’ after the first month of Ibiza 2014. It looks like we even had a couple of them right, next to some surprises that we hadn’t expected at first thought. So here’s the list (the * after a track means we guessed it correctly, following our predicted spot): 10. Patrick Topping ‘Forget’ * [#6] One of the hottest new additions to the Hot Creations stable dropped a track ... Read more

Review: Gardens of God – Ys EP

Ellum Audio was initially set up as a way out for Maceo Plex to spread around his productions and what do you know, they prospered! Having accomplished so much in very little time, Ellum’s next step was to attain and sign new and unheard producers such as Good Guy Mikesh, Eric Volta and Odd Parents. We can’t help noticing that the process of A&R is rudimentary for Ellum, but having such influence on the electronic music today, it seems way too easy for Maceo Plex sign and kickstart a producer’s career. To initiate 2014, Ellum drops their 17th release in February ... Read more

Review: Good Guy Mikesh – From Another World EP

The electronic all-rounder from Leipzig (GE) ‘Good Guy Mikesh’ just dropped his new ‘From Another World EP’ on Ellum Audio. This exciting EP consists of three original tracks which all exudes Mikesh’s characteristically gloomy, yet cordial vibe that also convinced label boss Maceo Plex to work with him. The EP kicks off with Maceo’s edit of ‘Place of Love’ which features Mikesh’s production partner and friend Filburt. The track begins with a steady semiquavers groove and a divine spherical synthesizer pattern that slowly winds itself round the groove like a creeper plant round its tree. After a break in the ...
