DHA FM Mix #429 By Sharif Laffrey

Sharif Laffrey is something of an unheralded hero of the underground Detroit scene. Active since the halcyon days of the mid-90s Motor City rave movement, his sporadic releases are rarely less than superb. His tension building, groove-driven, and percussion-heavy productions are unmatched if you ask us. Sharif Laffrey has been playing records and making music for over 20 years. Born in Detroit, Michigan – he’s worked on the line checking camshafts for Chryslers & as an operative for Underground Resistance (UR) at Submerge for Mike Banks, at the same time. With releases on ESP Institute, Discos Capablanca, Le Temps Perdu and forthcoming remixes for ... Read more

VOLTT Returns To NDSM For Season Closing Festival Event

After almost four years of renovation, VOLTT finally returns to the legendary slopes of the Amsterdam NDSM Shipyards for a day full of Techno on 26 August 2017. Since 2006, VOLTT has always aimed to stay close to its true-sound-of-techno roots, supplemented with the gorgeous Amsterdam skyline as a backdrop. This year’s edition brings back the summer festival season closing event to its original industrialised feel as its head honcho Bart Skils kicks the day off. All-time favorites, and some of the scene’s biggest names will all be on hand, like Alan Fitzpatrick, Deadbeat, Magda, Mathew Jonson, and Oscar Mulero, ... Read more

Interview: Cassy. The Donna of Techno

I thought I knew exactly how I will introduce Cassy after we finished our long 40 min skype call. Loads to discuss – her her freshly released album, debut on Radio 1’s Essential Mix series, Ibiza, women in the music industry and the rights and wrongs of the dance music industry. So I thought, I will introduce Cassy as someone that every girl in the electronic music scene can look up to. A strong, independent and unique woman with a feminine power and a sensitive musical flow, who also happens to be excellent DJ. But I was wrong. I just did not instantly see the whole picture. ... With A Little Help From NYMA, Magda Aims to Blur The Lines Between DJ and Live Performance

Over the past handful of years, the concept of DJing has changed dramatically. Unlike the two-turntable-and-a-mixer approach of yesteryear, mixing is now composed out of a much more complex syntax of structures, layers, stems and patches.  With this in mind, minimal icon Magda and prominent technology pioneer NYMA have collaborated on a brand new, handmade, and customised DJ controller, which they call VERSUS. Developed in congruence with Faderfox and Glanzmann DDS (who hand make each unit in Switzerland, to order), VERSUS aims to “further bridging the gap between live and DJ performances, at maximising creative possibilities and at making the process as smooth and ...
