Premiere: Nachtbraker - Aliens [Quartet Series]

After a string of acclaimed EPs on Heist, Dirt Crew and Quartet Series, Amsterdam’s Nachtbraker presents “When You Find a Stranger in the Alps”, his first longplayer on his own Quartet Series imprint. “When You Find a Stranger in the Alps”, a nod to Nachtbraker’s favorite Coen Brothers’ movie, is testament to his studio prowess and drive to explore new sonic pastures and styles. The album consists of thirteen tracks, made over the course of 2,5 years in his studio at Volkshotel Amsterdam. Here, off the album, ‘Aliens’ is a choppy, headsdown groover with cheeky UFO-geek samples that wouldn’t be ... Read more

With support coming from Jacques Renault, Horse Meat Disco, James Zabiela, Keinemusik, Soul Clap, Tronik Youth, Nachtbraker, Hrdvsion and more comes “Gated Soul”, the fourth release from London’s Lossy on his Boot Cycle Audio imprint. After releasing with Tru Thoughts, Tessier-Ashpool Recordings & Two Rivers Records, Lossy continues to switch things up with four tracks of a more soulful brand of electro with wonky rhodes, crunched-up breaks, plunging bass lines and drum machine medicine. Here, ‘To The Woods’ rounds off the package on a velveteen note with light footed woodwinds swooping above a solid broken beat backone. “Gated Soul EP” ... Read more

Premiere: Nachtbraker – Kippendijen (Original Mix)

Quarter Series label boss Nachtbraker finally makes his solo debut on the imprint last year’s successful Heist Recordings release. Known for exploring different sounds and angles with his productions, this record is his most club-orientated to date. Intricate ghetto house with a slight French touch to straight up 4×4 with a pinch of jacking flavour would be an accurate description of this release. The use of 90’s hip hop samples within this auditory concoction successfully highlights Nachtbraker’s excellent ear for detail and penchant for exciting, eclectic and downright weird changeovers. Here, the EPs B-side – ‘Kippendijen’ is a House heavyweight ... Read more

Mix #189 By Nachtbraker

After receiving widespread recognition for books like “How Does He Do It?” and “Glorious Misunderstandings,” Maurits Verwoerd decided to start a career as a music producer. Coming out occasionally, but only at night, slowly made him well known among friends and enemies as Nachtbraker (Dutch for night hawk). The signs of exposure to a wide range of genres are clearly hearable in his music, ranging from ecstatic slow grooves to unconventional ... Read more
