[Interview] Through The Smoke With Helena Hauff

Born and raised in Hamburg, former Golden Pudel resident Helena Hauff’s profile has grown exponentially since the release of her 2015 LP debut “Discreet Desires”. Built on authenticity and seamless integration of Acid, Electro, EBM, Techno and Post Punk in her electrifying DJ sets (still constructed via the physicality of lugging record boxes from country to country), Helena has found herself an event center piece everywhere from Sonar to Dekmantel (where she returns this 5 August). As a Producer, her machine centered, unapologetically raw work has been heard via Werkdiscs, Handmade Birds, as well as her own Return to Disorder ... Read more

Interview: Umfang

Born in New York City, raised in the Mid West, and now a staple of Brooklyn’s underground electronic scene, Umfang’s amorphous polyrhythmic Techno productions have been felt everywhere from Ninja Tune to Dekmantel. The co founder of the Discowman collective, and monthly resident of Brooklyn’s Technofeminism concept since 2012, consistently enjoys playing with people’s expectations of how a Techno set can be defined. With a political edge rooted in 21st Century ideals that push history, diversity, and accessibility throughout a still male-dominated industry, Umfang’s willingness to break the template has set her, and the multitude of emerging talents she has ... Premiere: Peggy Gou - Travelling Without Arriving (GE-OLOGY Nite Stealth Ninja Mix)

Following her huge landmark Ninja Tune release, Peggy Gou is set to release one of her earlier favourites – a subtle deep house groover complete with today’s exclusive premiere, it’s remix from Brooklyn’s GE_OLOGY. Here, GE-OLOGY takes Peggy’s laidback ‘Travelling Without Arriving’ and adds his own signature touch, taking the initial riff and layering several lines of groovy kicks before introducing a sharp synth stab. Harder-hitting than its predecessor, GE-OLOGY’s edit is a supremely danceable cut, and better suited to the late-night floor than Peggy’s more mellow original. “Travelling Without Arriving” is available 27 April on Phonica White PRE ORDER

The Most Politically Active Artists In Dance Music

“My house is your house” – states the mantra of the music we love. But what house are we living in in the real world? Dance music, in its purest form, comes with an embedded message of unity, acceptance and tolerance. But on the other hand, it is also a church of escapism and hedonistic ‘carpe diem’ – pretty much synonymous with the indulgence of state-of-mind enhancing substances. But does it step further than that? To the communities, societies we live in? And can DJs be the catalyst for change? (should they be?). In this list we present the dance music artists that, at least in our view, ... Read more

Studio Quality Production App Now Available For Android

Having already released for iOS back in 2013, Ninjajamm was just one of many music production apps in the spectrum of the Apple-centric digital sphere. Now, Ninjajamm has separated from the pack a bit by releasing their intuitive touch controlled platform for Android devices. Essentially, working off the “stems” approach, Ninjajamm allows users to remix remix “tunepacks” you chose using a sequence-based interface by using its touch, tilt, and gesture controls alongside effects and filters (reverb, glitch). The app was developed by Coldcut‘s Jonathan Moore and originally provided Ninja Tune artists (Moore is a co founder of the seminal dance imprint) such as Amon Tobin ... Read more
