Vienna Now Deems All Clubs As Culturally Signficant

The high culture in nightlife wars continue to rage on after the well documented troubles of London’s fabric, Chicago’s nightclubs,  and the triumph of Berlin’ Berghain’s status of cultural importance.

Now, a new city: Vienna, has come to the night world’s aid, deeming ALL their nightclubs to be spaces of cultural significance and thus ridding them of the country’s 15% “entertainment tax” (it should be noted this tax only pertained to dance events and not to “standing room” style concerts. As an example, an Austrian musician was fined some €10,000 because too many people were dancing at his show). The tax will be lifted as of January 1, 2017 as Austrian newspaper Der Standard reports.

Last year the tax generated some €5.6 million in revenue.
