Sometimes it seems like the 1990s are everywhere, from Netflix reissue of Full House to the entirity of the US Presidential campaign.
Now, the just wrapped New York Fashion Week is the latest to fully embrace 90s rave nostalgia with a slew of designers presenting neons, dreadlocks, meshes, and more on their respective runway shows. Designers from Marc Jacobs controversial show to Morecco and Molly Goddard.
Jacobs, who has come under fire with accusations of cultural appropriation, is probably the most high profile name on this list, who’s SS17 collection featured an acid house soundtrack with multi colored dreadlocked models like superstars Gigi & Bella Hadid, Karlie Kloss, and Adriana Lima parading ruffled miniskirts, 8 inch platforms, short-short satin hot pants, and striped over-the-knee-socks at the event-ending Hammerstein Ballroom rave/runway show. Meanwhile, Morecco and Goddard highlighted neon color palettes with a focus on ruffled neon sating crop tops.
Of course, the rave trend is nothing new to New York Fashion Week. Last year’s edition saw Alexander Wang throw an “illegal” Brooklyn warehouse event and Jeremy Scott held his afterparty at Space Ibiza New York. Even Drew Barrymore got into the action(!)
