Samuel Walker and Gavin Royce, aka Walker & Royce, are no rookies in the electronic music industry. The past ten years they’ve been omnipresent in the background of the NYC dance scene, Samuel as a producer and engineer, while Gavin was planning parties wherever the Big Apple would allow him. They met ten years ago in the club scene in New York, both doing an internship at Studio Distribution. In the beginning their friendship centered around their mutual love for dance music, partying together and enjoying whatever life in the big city might grant two young lads.
The years that followed they spent further developing their interests and skills, though mostly following their own separate paths. Sam spent most of his time in the studio, producing and engineering any sound he could lay his hands on, while Gavin evolved into somewhat of a musical caterpillar: organizing events, parties, basically any kind of get-together that included his passion, dance music. With the city as their playground, these years were crucial in the blossoming of what would finally prove to be a fruitful collaboration.
When 2011 finally found them working in the same office again, this time at NYC house epicenter Nervous Records, the time proved right. Inspired by the new sounds they worked with daily, they decided to try and bundle their strengths by releasing some remixes. The combination of Sam’s producing skills and Gavin’s eye (and ear) for what works in an audience apparently hit a sweet spot, and their mixes got major attention from the house scene.
From there their career skyrocketed, doing remixes for artists such as 33hz, Publicist, Saarid. Their productions and remixes have been released on well-respected labels such as Crosstown Rebels, Glasgow Underground, Dither Down, Pets Recordings, Moda Black and more. The latter will have their own stage at AIR Amsterdam during All Gone Pete Tong ADE Special on October 17th. It’s there that Amsterdam will see Walker & Royce live in action, in the thick of the craze that is Amsterdam Dance Event. Catch them rocking alongside the likes of Pete Tong, Skream, Tensnake, Ben Pearce, Shadow Child and many more. Oh Lordie! They will also perform a day earlier at Unconditional alongside Wildkats, Nhan Solo and the rapidly rising duo Cleavage at BARKODE, which will be an amazing way to start your ADE.
