To celebrate their sterling upcoming ‘Stars EP’ release on Culprit (full premiere here), Aidan Lavelle and Robbie Akbal have cooked up an intense mix for you to treat your ears to. Be swept away on a high dose of deep, funk-driven grooves and a futuristic vibe.
The LA-based imprint Culprit, founded by the DJ/producer trio Droog, is known for their careful selection of funky and modernistic underground house music. @Culpritla has released records for distinguished and celebrated names like Lee Foss, Lee Curtiss, Jamie Jones, MANIK, Kenneth James Gibson, Seth Troxler, Inxec, Matt Tolfrey, Subb-an, Martin Buttrich, Ryan Crosson, Shaun Reeves, Soul Clap, Tanner Ross, Jozif and many more.
The latest release has been created by two affiliates of the label: Robbie Akbal and Aidan Lavelle. Barcelona based and veteran of the Deep House scene in Mexico and the owner of the widely respected Akbal Music, bearing the last name of the artist in question: Robbie Akbal. Robbie has been pushing the sound since 1993 in his native (Riviera Maya, Mexico).
Akbal Music has released some great artists including: Nick Curly, Audiofly, Guti, Miguel Puente, Wildkats, Death on the Balcony, Johnny White, Jef K + many more. He also compiled and mix the Get Physical essentials 7 for during last summer (2014).
His music & sound has been played & supported recently by : Anja Schneider, M.A.N.D.Y., Audiofly, Kiki, Ray Okpara, Oliver Lieb, Jay Tripwire to name a few. He has worked in the studio with great producers like Aidan Lavelle, Shall Ocin and Miguel Puente and amazing vocalists like Cari Golden and Shawni. He has also played in some of the best clubs & parties all around in Mexico, and several places like Moscow, Paris, Lisbon, Miami, London, Berlin, Dubai, Russia, Kazantip, Copenhagen, Prague, Munich, Barcelona, Valencia, Ibiza & many more. He has been remixed by Luca Bacchetti, Inxec, Grant Dell, Louie Fresco, Marcin Czubala & Metrika and now also André Hommen.
Aidan Lavelle is a London based composer and producer who has had a prolific career in music, both as a solo artist and film composer as well as writing and producing for the British collective UNKLE. He has worked with artists such as; Gorillaz, Ian Brown, Queens Of The Stone Age, Massive Attack, Ian Astbury, Autolux, Black Mountain and The Big Pink.
Aidan Lavelle stepped back into dance music in 2012, releasing two EPs for Rebellion (Crosstown Rebels’ imprint) and doing remixes for Layo & Bushwacka and Betoko. DJ gigs brought him to London Warehouse Events, Rebellion Rave and Crosstown Rebels’ Manchester Warehouse Project. Aidans immediate upcoming schedule includes the UK, Spain, Russia, Peru and Mexico.
Aidan has upcoming releases for Rebellion and Oko Recordings as well as remixes for various projects, and his unique style and high production values have gained him support from the likes of Damian Lazarus, Maceo Plex, Pan-Pot, Tiefschwarz, Pete Tong, Sasha, Yousef, John Digweed, Layo & Bushwacka, Fur Coat, Francesca Lombardo, Rich Ahmed, Droog, Amirali… The list goes on. The radio support has also been of great success with Aidan’s latest EP featuring two different tracks on both Pete Tongs Essential Mix and his Evolution show on the other side of the pond.
