With International industry media singing his praises, Khen is set to be the next big thing out of the Israel’s stellar dance music lineage.
With a hypnotic and emotionally charged style featured here before, Khen possesses a truly idiosyncratic sound that transcends genre. After years of honing his skills both in the studio and behind the decks, his music has since reached Guy Mantzur‘s Plattenbank imprint, as well as Nick Warren’s Hope, Hernan Cattaneo’s Sudbeat, John Digweed‘s Bedrock, and Guy J’s Lost & Found.
Here, Khen provides a melodic journey of a mixtape just perfect to kick away that Monday blues.
Can you tell us how you approached constructing this mix?
I picked out 2-3 tracks I really felt I want to include in the mix. Then I built from there and looked for stuff I can build on top of those to create the story wanted. A lot of times when I make a mix like there are so many tracks I really want to include and skipping those in order to maintain the flow can be hard sometimes.
How do you approach constructing a mix vs. a live DJ set?
The main idea with a mix is to make it a nice listen in so many different environments. A good studio mix should work in the car, gym, pre-party and so on.
A DJ set is all about what happens then and there on the dance floor and vibing with the crowd. Both have one thing in common and that’s that I always try to tell a story.
When you were young, what mixes did you have on repeat?
That’s easy. All the Global Underground ones were on heavy rotation. I listened to a lot of stuff from my older brother Vic too. When I was growing up he was quite a big name in Israel. I grew up on his music. Mostly tribal and older progressive stuff. I hope he makes a comeback. He’s really good!
