That Manchester is a breeding ground for talented DJ’s and producers has been proven again by Ben Pearce. The born and raised Mancunian went straight to the top of the Beatport charts at the age of 23, produces record after record next an ever-expanding gig book and still finds time to run his own record label Purp & Soul. He fixed us up with a very special mixtape that will shake your bones from head to toe.
Growing up with heavy metal and punk, Ben Pearce discovered electronic music in his late teens. He crafted his skill in the club- and ravescene in his hometown, laying the foundation for his specific musical taste and DJ’ing style. Gradually he started to define himself in the studio as well, gradually gathering enough expertise and knowledge to create something extraordinary. In October 2013 something extraordinary did hit the shelves, it was ‘What I Might Do‘, which was released on the Under the Shade imprint. A brilliant mixture of funky, sexy and, above all, deeper than deep house torpedoed the release to no.3 on the Beatport chart, and even no.1 on its deep house chart. The track gained support from artists like Seth Troxler, Pete Tong, Maya Jane Coles and Jamie Jones. Remixes were done by Adam Shelton, Bonar Bradberry and Harry Wolfman. The ball started rolling for the twenty-something: gigs abroad, remix requests and labels that wanted to sign him. But the UK’s fresh new star kept his cool, pumping out killer record after record and making a bigger name for himself.
I had the pleasure of seeing Ben Pearce perform a couple of times and his shows were nothing short of spectacular. Throwing out sick grooves that had energy levels climaxing all over the place. That’s why I was glad to hear that the Englishman would come to Amsterdam for ADE. Check him rocking at the All Gone Pete Tong ADE Special, October 17th. One of Amsterdam’s favourite playgrounds, AIR Amsterdam, will be the location for this crazy event, where fellow countrymen Shadow Child, Skream, and of course Pete Tong himself, will provide us with the best of deep house in all its flavors. We’ll see you there, front row, goin’ nuts. But until then, treat yourself to this mindblowing mixtape Ben hooked us up with.
