Some tragic news out of Ibiza this morning can serve as a welcome reminder that partying safe does not necessarily pertain exclusively to drug use.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Partying with friends as part of a Saturday night stag, a 26-year-old British man plunged to his death from the fifth floor balcony of San Antonio, Ibiza’s\u00a0Piscis Park Hotel<\/strong>.\u00a0A spokesperson for the Foreign Office<\/strong> said: “We can confirm the death of a British national in Ibiza,”<\/em> as well as\u00a0“we are providing consular assistance to the family at this sad time.”<\/em><\/p>\n

The death is being treated as an accident, though a post-mortem drug and alcohol test has been requested from a Barcelona-based speciality laboratory. That being said, it is standard policy in Spain that the results of such tests are not made public.<\/p>\n

Though rare, such incidents still do occur from time to time, with the hotel in question having endured similar such incidents\u00a0in the past (though, non-fatal). In a practice dubbed ‘balconing,’ some tourists risk their lives with the intention of jumping off the hotel’s roof into the swimming pool below. Local authorities have attempted\u00a0to stamp out such activities with heavy fines, however the latest incident has proven suchactions to not be\u00a0100% effective.<\/p>\n

A quick glance at the video below shows the act in practice, holding an\u00a0obvious air of irresponsibility. Let’s hope such tragedies can be avoided in the future, as such thrill-seeking\u00a0is surely antithetical toward any Ibizan vacationers plans for quality sun soaked partying.<\/p>\n
