Born and raised on Athersley South council estate in Barnsley, Hot Since 82\u00a0was pretty much schooled for DJ success from birth.<\/strong><\/p>\n

His formal DJ education started at 17, playing 12-13 hour sets each Sunday at a club in his hometown \u2013 with queues round the block, as his residency soon became the number one afterparty destination for clubbers from far and wide. As word got around, the next stop was a 2006 residency at Cream Ibiza<\/strong> in Amnesia<\/strong> under the banner of Leeds club Glasshouse<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Since then Hot Since 82\u2019s trajectory has been nothing short of incredible. x4 Pete Tong \u2018Essential New Tunes\u2019<\/em>, x2 BBC \u2018Essential Mixes\u2019<\/em>, 2013\u2019s groundbreaking \u2018Little Black Book\u2019<\/em>, 2014\u2019s Knee Deep In Sound<\/strong> mix album (on his new label of the same name), Top 10 Beatport seller of all time with his \u2018Bigger Than Prince\u2019<\/em> remix, Mixmag cover star, performing live accompanied by a string quartet, x4 sell out North & South America tours including Coachella<\/strong>, x3 tantalizing Ibiza seasons and most recently his best trick yet, kidnapping fans for TAKEN<\/strong>, one of the most unique clubbing experiences you will ever have.<\/p>\n

On 31 August, Hot Since 82 will make his Cocoon @ Amnesia<\/strong> debut, performing\u00a0inside the Ibizan institution alongside Ben UFO<\/strong> and Joy Orbison<\/strong>, while Ricardo Villalobos<\/strong>, Sonja Moonear<\/strong>, and Dorian Paic<\/strong> handle terrace duties. Anticipating this very special event, we caught up with the man himself to get his own impressions on Ibiza memories, Amnesia, Cocoon, and much more.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere\u2019s something about sharing a giant dance floor with the weird and wonderful from all over the world…\u201d<\/em><\/span><\/h2>\n

How has your summer been so far? How has it compared to past summers, professionally? Prior to the start of the summer season, how do you prepare yourself mentally and physically for its rigours?<\/b>
\nSo far this summer has been really incredible, I\u2019ve been playing a lot of shows in Europe + I\u2019ve also been able to get over to America for some great dance festivals there.<\/p>\n

In terms of preparing for the summer I don\u2019t have a set routine for preparing for the summer but I do always try my best get back to the comfort of my own bed after a busy weekend and avoiding after parties always helps!<\/p>\n

You will play your Cocoon @ Amnesia debut on August 31. To you, what does the name Cocoon mean?<\/b>
\nI\u2019ve got a lot of amazing memories of partying at Sven\u2019s incredible night, for me the atmosphere in both rooms is totally unique and part of the reason people coming to Ibiza. It really means a lot to me to have been asked to play there.<\/p>\n

As an artist making their debut at such a respected event within your industry, how do you prepare for such a set? Is the preparation any different from normal? Do you still get nervous (assuming you did get nervous at some point in your career)?<\/b>
\nTo be honest the preparation for all the gigs I play comes in my down time in the studio or at home, I\u2019m always adding new and old music to my sets, because I\u2019ve been DJng for some time I don\u2019t tend to get nervous these days but never say never.<\/p>\n

What have been some of your past experiences with Amnesia? As far as you know, why do Cocoon and Amnesia work so well together?<\/b>
\nIt\u2019s the music combined with the people that visit from all over the world. There\u2019s something about sharing a giant dance floor with the weird and wonderful from all over the world, that you just don\u2019t get anywhere else.<\/p>\n

I What is your earliest memory of Ibiza? When did you first think that you \u201cmade it\u201d as an artist on the island?<\/b>
\nI\u2019ve got some great memories of being a San Antonio worker, I still go back and visit the family who lived next door to me then, they cook a mean paella!<\/p>\n

Describe a typical day on Ibiza with Hot Since 82? Whether gigging or not, what are some activities\/places you enjoy on the island?<\/b>
\nA great day in Ibiza for me would be hanging out as Es Vive rooftop with friends having a couple of cocktails then heading to a club for a made one followed up with a cheeky after party.<\/p>\n

Your label Knee Deep In Sound is also doing quite well over the past year+ of its existence. What qualities do you look for in an artist\/track that could potentially be signed to the label? How do you balance the label\u2019s output between new artists and more \u201cestablished\u201d ones?<\/b>
\nTo be hones with Knee Deep In Sound I sign the music that I think is current and most importantly, people would enjoy having a dance to. I also like to develop a relationship with the artist which is important for future releases.<\/p>\n

We also have the KDIS parties now which is another great platform for bringing through the new artist we sign.<\/p>\n

Speaking on the label, you will also be releasing the inaugural 2015 Ibiza Sampler from KDIS. For those who don\u2019t know, can you describe the concept behind a sampler? Is this standard practice for labels? What are the intentions behind them?<\/b>
\nThe KDIS Ibiza sampler was released back in June, similar to the Miami sampler we released around WMC its features around 6 tracks from new and old artists coming onto the label. The Ibiza sampler features music from Steve Lawler, Sidney Charles, Sante, Montel and more!<\/p>\n

Is there a particular role within the industry you enjoy most? Is it DJ? Producer? Label Owner?<\/b>
\nNothing beats DJing. I\u2019ve been doing it for so long, it\u2019s where I feel most at home.<\/p>\n

What is an essential piece of gear for you in the studio and on the road?<\/b>
\nI\u2019ve recently started putting together a new home studio and kitting it out with bits from Roland & Rane, both amazing manufactures.<\/p>\n

It\u2019s not essential as you can rarely find them but I also love using the Rotary mixer!<\/p>\n

Will you get any time to chill out after the summer or is it all work?<\/b>
\nThe plan is to take a bit of time out in the New Year to give the ears a rest and relax before it all gets going again!<\/p>\n
