PRïMA is a Berlin collective and label from Mat.Joe, C’mon & Otistic that brings bass driven house music to the masses. We caught up with them recently to find out what makes them work so well together, and their plans for the label in the future…
Hey Guys, how are you all, how has your year been?
Hey yaa 🙂 quite good actually! Enjoying the Berlin summer and finally baaaack to normal playing routine! Our South America tour in the beginning of the year was lit and music keeps getting released… what else can you wish for? ❤️🔥
When did you decide to work together on the new single, and why?
Like with a lot of tracks we do there was no real decision making before we started to work on it together. We just work! This project, his project, their project (bangers only of course). It just goes on and on and in the end we have a lot of tracks – PRÏMA Tracks!
How did you work for this new XTC single – were you all together in the studio or was it online?
More or less! In this particular case different parts were added by different people in different areas at different times. But the fine tuning was made together!
Who did what? Did you each take care of certain stems and aspects of the tune?
So Mat found the sample in a song he was listening to and thought like: Nice! She’s singing XTC… that reminds me of XTC! This thought ended up in making a little loopiloop with this vocal. After presenting the loop to Joe in Ecuador they worked on it to make it an even more interesting loop! And then back in Berlin after showing the more interesting loop to the gang the studio sesh emerged in a wild rollercoaster through the 80s with R&B and a lot of LOVE!
You are all together in the Prïma label project? Can you tell us about the plan for the label and its ethos?
Siii we are! And yeah we have a plan! And it‘s quite simple: Make the hottest, body moving and dopamin releasing tunes that bring all of you sweeties on the dancefloor! Concerning our ethos… ehh: Viva la bamba!
What have you learned about yourselves and each other in the beginning of the label?
One thing we learned for sure is that making music together is way more fun than doing it solo!
Was there a plan, concept, certain party in mind when you wrote XTC?
Not really. As musicians we are people of the heart, of the moment, of the feeling. One day you feel like this and the other one you feel like that. One day you do a badass bassline banger, the other one a sweet and classic house tune and then you end up doing some 80‘s the third day. That’s music and it should always be like that! Try something new, do something crazy and always challenge yourself with new stuff. Just don’t get stuck babies!
What‘s the labels plans for the rest of the year? Be it releases, parties etc etc?
With the XTC EP it’s a little bit like the era of introducing you our new label is now coming to an end. We did 4 releases with 5 tracks all together now to let you know that we are not only a label but also a crew!
So now get fckn ready for some heavy solo releases!! Skrrt!
