With his latest single, You’re The Only Place I Need, NOVEMBER KID continues to blur the line between heartfelt songwriting and euphoric electronic music. Built around themes of comfort, connection, and finding home in another person, the track showcases a more refined and confident side of his artistry. We caught up with him to talk about the inspiration behind the release, his evolving creative process, and where this new chapter is taking him.
Your new single “You’re The Only Place I Need” is such an evocative title. What’s the story behind the track, and what inspired you to write it?
“You’re The Only Place I Need” is about finding peace in one person. We spend so much time chasing things, but sometimes home isn’t a place—it’s a feeling you find in someone else.
I wanted to capture that feeling of escaping the noise of the world and realizing that, with the right person beside you, everything else fades into the background.
How did the idea for this release first come together? Was it born from a specific moment, emotion, or studio session?
It started with an emotion rather than a plan. I remember sitting in the studio wanting to create something warm and hopeful instead of dramatic. The first chords immediately created this feeling of comfort, and from there everything came together naturally. Sometimes songs take weeks to figure out — this one seemed to know where it wanted to go from the very beginning.
Your music often balances emotion with dancefloor energy. How do you approach finding that sweet spot between the two?
For me, the emotion always comes first. If a song doesn’t make me feel something before the drums even come in, it’s probably not the right idea. Once I have that emotional foundation, I build a groove around it that lets people dance without losing the feeling. That’s the balance I’m always chasing.
Can you walk us through the production process for this track? Were there any sounds or
techniques that became defining elements of the final version?
The production went through a lot of small refinements. I wanted everything to feel warm, spacious and organic. The piano, atmospheric textures and the vocal processing became the defining elements, while keeping the drums clean and powerful. I probably spent more time simplifying than adding things—making sure every sound had a purpose.
What emotions do you hope listeners take away after hearing “You’re The Only Place I Need”?
I hope it gives people a feeling of comfort and hope. Life moves fast, and I want this song to be one of those tracks you can put on, take a deep breath, and simply enjoy the moment. If it reminds someone of a person they love, that’s even better.
Was there a particular lyric, melody, or musical motif that served as the foundation for the rest of the song?
It was definitely the title and the vocal hook. Once “You’re The Only Place I Need” existed, everything else started building around that message. It became the emotional center of the entire production.
How has your sound evolved since your earlier releases, and where does this single fit into that journey?
Over the years I’ve become much more confident in keeping things simple. Earlier on I sometimes tried to do too much. Today I focus on strong melodies, honest emotions and productions that breathe.
This song feels like a very natural representation of where NOVEMBER KID is right now.
Who or what has been inspiring you creatively recently, both inside and outside of music?
Nature inspires me a lot. I spend a lot of time outside, and that’s usually where my mind slows down enough for new ideas to appear. Musically I’m inspired by artists who manage to combine emotional songwriting with electronic music in a timeless way, but I always try to turn those influences into something that feels like my own voice.
When you’re in the studio, do you usually begin with a vocal idea, a melody, or a groove?
How did this track develop compared to your usual workflow?
Usually it starts with chords or a melody because that’s where the emotion lives. Once I feel
something, the groove comes naturally. This track followed that exact path—it all began with a simple progression that instantly created the atmosphere I was looking for.
How do you know when a track is finished? Was there a moment where you knew this one was ready to share with the world?
That’s always the hardest part because you can keep tweaking forever. For me, it’s finished when I stop thinking like a producer and start listening like a fan. When I caught myself replaying this song just because I enjoyed it, I knew it was ready.
How do your live performances influence your production decisions, and can fans expect
“You’re The Only Place I Need” to become a key part of your sets?
Live shows have become a much bigger part of my thinking recently. I want my songs to work both emotionally and in a live environment. This track definitely has that balance, so yes—I can absolutely see it becoming one of the highlights of future NOVEMBER KID sets.
Looking ahead, does this release hint at a larger body of work, or is it a standalone snapshot of where you are creatively right now?
It definitely represents the direction I’m moving in. I don’t want to rush a bigger project just for the sake of it, but every release is building a bigger picture. I’m excited about what’s coming next because I feel like I’m only just getting started with the sound I truly want NOVEMBER KID to be known for.
