In the world of electronic music, rising UK star Ollie Bentley has been making a name for himself with his unique blend of classic and contemporary sounds. His latest release, “Rippin’ Wax” on INLV showcases his skillful production and ability to create high-energy beats that keep crowds moving. We chatted recently and took a closer look at Ollie’s background, influences, and creative process, as well as dissecting his new single to understand what makes it stand out in today’s crowded music market….

How has the 2023 been for you so far?

2023 has been exciting so far with my first release of the year, ‘Rippin Wax’ which was came out on INLV which performed amazing hitting the top 10 in the minimal hype charts on Beatport and picking up great support from different DJ’s at some of the best venues around the world and also saw my first Radio play from BBC Introducing which was a great moment.

How much impact has growing up in Manchester had on your sound? Not just the music scene but the people, history, architecture?

I’d say it’s had massive impact over the years considering when I first started enjoying the rave scene my music taste was completely different to what it is now as the music I listen to and am exposed to is constantly evolving and changing. Manchester as a place is so culturally influential it’s impossible for me not be influenced by my surroundings and the people in and from the city.

What was your taste back when you started, what parties and djs were you into?

When I first started going to parties and events I really enjoyed watching big djs like Marco Carola, Jamie Jones and Steve Lawler they were the djs who had to me hooked to the scene. I loved their events like Paradise, Music On, Viva Warriors and of course Warehouse Project.

How has that evolved over time, what inspires you now?

As the years have gone on my taste has directed more towards artists such as Enzo Siragusa, Djoko, Gene on Earth and the more Fuse and LOCUS style sound that inspires my productions the majority of the time. But as far as music as a whole I love so many different genres and love to explore different sounds in the studio.

What’s the aim with your music? What is its signature? What do you hope is your music identity?

My goal is to release new music every month on various different labels, showcasing my sound and style of music reaching a worldwide audience. I would also love to release one track that would be remembered as an all time classic.

Tell us about your rippin wax release, where and when it was written and the aim of it?

I wrote Rippin Wax in April last year and I really wanted to challenge myself with the production by trying to incorporate numerous different lead elements within the track making sure that each part worked in unison with each other and flowed exactly how I wanted it to. The aim was to keep the energy throughout the track whilst keeping the style very dark and melodic.

What else have you got coming up?

Next up I have remixed a track for Italian house music’s finest Neverdogs called ‘The Sky’ which is coming out on Steve Lawler’s legendary VIVa MUSiC record label at the end of February. It’s already been picking up some great support from the likes of Mason Collective and Steve Lawler himself. I’m really excited for this release and for people to hear this one.

I’ve also been working hard in the studio and will be announcing more releases and shows soon.
