Hey DJ Vibe! Thanks for joining us today. How’s your summer been so far?
Very good! I’ve been quite busy recently.
Congrats on the release of Cosmic Love EP on Do Not Sit. What was inspiration behind this record?
Thank you very much ! My friend To Ricciardi used to play some nights in the late 80’s early 90’s at the KGB club in Estoril where they played more alternative music and I used to go visit him on my days off and it was that time that inspired us for this Ep.
Can you tell us more about your friendship with Do Not Sit and it’s founder Behrouz?
I met Behrouz in the middle of the 90’s when I went to play with him in San Francisco at club 1015 where he had his night called “Release” and since then we’ve been friends.
You have collaborated with To Ricciardi on this project. How did you meet? What was your experience working together?
We’re from the same generation we’ve known each other since 1985 he played at the KGB I at the Plateau I bought music at the record store where I work at the end of 1985 he came to work at the same club where I was Plateau and we’ve been friends ever since. This was not the first time we worked together.
What does your studio setup look like?
My studio is a very nice and comfortable little room, it has to be because I spend most of my time in it. I have some external keyboards but most synths and plugs are on my computer.
Can you mention some instruments and plugins that you believe define your sound?
I don’t have one but I keep my Juno 106 and Waldorf XT in the business 🙂
How do you define success? Is it about the numbers or is there more to it?
I started in 1982 as a DJ, later in 1989 I started doing some remixes for some Portuguese bands and since then I haven’t done anything else in my life but play records and produce music. I am privileged to do what I like, that for me is the most important thing, then what do people like? Then you start to succeed which is fantastic and so begins to get paid to do your work is every artist’s wish.
When I started my career I didn’t care about payments, I lived at my parents’ house, I didn’t have that concern with money, later when you leave your parents’ house and become independent you start to pay attention to the numbers, because you start having to pay your bills. Success is achieved with hard work, that’s the only way to get there, then comes the numbers and it’s important to know how to manage it.
Thanks for joining us today. Is there anything else you would like to mention before we go?
It was a pleasure. Ricciardi and I have decided that sales of this record will revert 100% to Behrouz. Peace & Love.
