We’ve known each other since we were about eight years old.

What did you listen to outside the realms of dance / house music?
We were very into Hip-Hop and Jazz growing up, listened to everything J Dilla was involved with, and huge fans of Miles Davis and Herbie Hancock.

How did you get involved in the whole house scene? Was there a particular DJ or party that set you off on this track?
We have a really good friend back in Minnesota who first introduced us to a lot of IDM like Autechre and Funckarma, and invited us out to Seattle for the Decibel Festival. That was really the first time we were exposed to a whole range of different electronic music. After that, we both moved out to Bushwick, Brooklyn, and just started going to a lot of events, including Wolf + Lamb parties and The Bunker parties on the Lower East Side.

[gallery_bank type=”images” format=”filmstrip” title=”false” desc=”false” img_in_row=”3″ animation_effect=”bounce” image_width=”600″ album_title=”false” album_id=”56″]

Would you say your sound has evolved much over the years? What was it like in the beginning?
When we first started producing we were very influenced by what we were hearing out, which was mostly minimal techno. We had no idea what we were doing production-wise, so it all sounded pretty awful. From Greg’s jazz background, and our mutual appreciation for jazz and hip-hop, we slowly started to incorporate more of those elements into our music which felt a bit more natural.

Over the years has there been one moment that stands out as your greatest achievement?
I’d say completing our first album, Endangered Species. We were really happy with how it all came together, from the music to the artwork.

You guys have been traveling and playing for a long time. When you’re on the road is there one thing you can’t live/leave the house without?
Purell and a stack of New Yorker’s.

You’ll play the Crew Love party at Studio 338 this month. How did you get involved with those guys
Soon after meeting Zev and Gadi from Wolf + Lamb, we moved into the Marcy Hotel, which sort of served as the label headquarters. We were making music with them and helping out with the parties. Soul Clap came down for one of the parties and we all just hit it off. We’ve been working with them closely ever since.

How does the UK compare to the US with regard to the house scene? And does it affect the way you play?
We feel like the scene has really improved in the US in the last few years- more clubs opening up and more people interested in the music. There’s a great history of house music in the US but maybe it’s not quite as appreciated as it is in the UK. We don’t change how we play from one country to the next, but always feel like people are open to a variety of different styles in the UK.

Finally, what else do you guys have coming up? Anything we should know about?
We’ve been working on a lot of new music, I think a new EP and a new album in the works, as well as a joint EP with Soul Clap!

Soundcloud Artist Page

Wolf + Lamb | Soul Clap | Pillow Talk | No Regular Play | Slow Hands | Tanner Ross | more

13 June | Crew Love | Tickets | Studio 338

No Regular Play are a duo equally at home in the rehearsal rooms of Julliard as in the main room of Fabric.
