It came up a lot in late night conversations for donkeys!

When did Futureboogie actually launch?
2011 was when we finally came out the traps, with Father Father from Bashmore.

Story behind the Futureboogie name?
We were playing loads of broken beat at the time, loads of it jazz/soul/boogie based and wonky, the kind of thing you needed a third leg to dance to – it seemed apt for that vibe but done in a futuristic style – think it was one of the original crew Pieman who coined it but there has been some debate over that.

What was the most difficult aspect of launching the label?
To be totally honest it was just finding that first release – I heard it in a club with Bashmore and was just bang up for getting it out there – after that the first year or so just really rolled and all our friends started sending us music we really wanted to put out. We were really lucky in the sense that the hype machine got behind us from the off and we had a real honeymoon period.

What qualities do you look for in a Futureboogie artist?
Well first off the music has got to move us, it’s that simple. We get sent a lot of music by dear friends that we really want to put out – but if it doesn’t give you that feeling then it’s not happening. That and them being great in the pub or in a field late doors massively helps. We’ve been very fortunate in that 90% of our releases have been from friends.

[gallery_bank type=”images” format=”filmstrip” title=”true” desc=”false” img_in_row=”4″ display=”all” sort_by=”random” animation_effect=”bounce” image_width=”600″ album_title=”false” album_id=”122″]

Describe 3 seminal moments in Futureboogie existence?
Blimey that’s a tough one, there have been a lot. The Futureboogie boat party at Garden Festival 2008 was massively up there, ended with Fleetwood Mac and it’s still one of the best parties I’ve ever been a part of to this day.

The first time we booked Dixon at Native in Bristol in 2006 was another, I think we were either the first or one of the first to have him over to the UK. It was part of a bigger turning point for us musically, we were playing much more straight up house and disco than before when we would mix up everything from hip hop to broken, with loads of house and disco as well but we would really change moods and tempos over the night. He played so many tunes that became massive classics that we hadn’t really heard before, really was an incredible night musically – the recording of his mix is still out there and it’s amazing.

I guess for 3 I’d have to say one of the label nights we have done at Barbarellas in Croatia – possibly the best gigs we have ever had!

See also: DHA & The Boom Room Present: Dave Harvey

Most disappointing moment in Futureboogie existence?
Luckily there haven’t been too many of those!
