Here, you will find information on the label’s history, ethos, releases and future. As you can probably tell by know, we are asking each respective label rep the same questions. With this approach, we hope these showcases will be as educational and informative (for all you aspiring label heads out there) as they are entertaining.

“Our ethos is simple and effective; we want to make our listeners move. “

What does Domino Effect Records add to the dance music spectrum?
Since its creation in 2013, we’ve focused our efforts on developing Domino into a brand that consistently outputs a very distinctive House & Garage sound, our ethos is simple and effective; we want to make our listeners move. We provide an energy and quality that we believe isn’t paralleled often in our genre, with every release bringing something new to the table, whether it be our synonymous bass driven tech from artists such as Kyle Watson & Billy Kenny, our house fuelled garage productions from our very own S. Jay & Ostertag and Ozzi, or more chunky vocal cuts from the likes of Kactuz & Coeus, Fabio Lendrum & Ste E…

When did you first think about launching Domino Effect Records?
The concept of Domino Effect Records came about during the Summer of 2013. Myself & co-label runner S. Jay bounced ideas around for a good couple of months before putting some plans into place for the first VA release.

When did Domino Effect Records actually launch?
[DEFECT001] arrived in the stores on Mon 13th October 2013 with tracks from Low Steppa, Filthy Rich, Kyle Watson, A Lister, S. Jay & Ostertag, Dene Antony, Ben Mono and many more… It was a charting success and we’ve never looked back!

Story behind the Domino Effect Records name?
This is a great question, and the true answer is being made more apparent with every release. The Domino theory originates from one event causing a larger succession of events to follow, and with that in mind, dominos dropping, or events happening, are our releases getting bigger, more successful and generally gaining more momentum as they drop, each with more power than the last, due to the expansion of our fan based networks as we grow.

What was the most difficult aspect of launching the label?
Launching a record label is by no means easy. Lots of aspects begin introducing themselves to you, that as a new label runner, you never would have been expected to know about. Based on this fact alone, I personally made it our life-long dream to learn about the industry as best I could. The motivation to learn and soak things up like a sponge returned when I had something to focus my efforts towards, Domino Effect was the outcome.

[gallery_bank type=”images” format=”filmstrip” title=”false” desc=”false” img_in_row=”4″ display=”all” sort_by=”random” animation_effect=”bounce” image_width=”600″ album_title=”false” album_id=”185″]

What qualities do you look for in a Domino Effects Records artist?
It doesn’t take a scientist to see that our artists have since gone on to bigger and better projects after working with Domino Effect Records, that’s not to say that Domino has been the sole factor in this shift for our artists, on the contrary, we serve as a platform for our artists to further their career, and I believe this outlook has done some wonderful things for the label.

Describe three seminal moments in Domino Effects Records existence?
Well apart from the outstanding support across the dance spectrum from pioneers such as Groove Armada, Richie Hawtin, Andi Durrant, Tiesto, Riva Starr, Hot Since 82, James Zabiela, D Ramirez, Richy Ahmed, Josh Butler, No Artificial Colours, Paul Oakenfold, Tough Love, Martin Ikin, Inland Knights, Paco Osuna, Artful, Cera Alba, Sam Divine, DJ EZ, Darius Syrossian, Sidney Charles, Ben Pearce, Shiba San, Hector Couto, Andi Durrant, Friend Within, Grant Nelson, Kyle Watson, AC Slater, Miguel Campbell, Oliver Heldens, Amine Edge, Low Steppa, Alex Kenji, Max Chapman, Martijn Ten Velden, Hannah Wants, My Nu Leng, DeMarzo, Raffa FL, Miguel Puente, Mr Belt & Wezol, Richy Ahmed & many more

Plus an International label tour that had us performing to crowds of up to 9,000 across cities such as: Amsterdam [NL], Birmingham [UK], Manchester [UK], Londrina [BR], Nottingham [UK], Maputo [MZ], Utrecht [NL], Leiden [NL], Warsaw [PL] & our hometown Leeds [UK].

We hit our first 1 million Soundcloud plays in the first year, which is essentially what enabled our 1 year anniversary tour in the first place!

Most disappointing moment in Domino Effects Records existence?
Possibly one of the most disappointing moments was losing a track to Defected, AS I AM’s ‘Saving Grace’… We loved that whole production, but in the end it went to a good home, and one of my favourite labels.

Describe Domino Effects Records album artwork?
As the designer of our brand, the artwork shouldn’t be too difficult to try and sum up for you, basically If you don’t already know, we are a black and white brand, so firstly, we don’t try to dress up the releases with colourful eye catching nonsense, as we let our music do the talking. Secondly, the monochromatic designs show the contrast between light and dark, and for us, this is a subconscious insight into the contrast of our music.

Best Domino Effects Records showcase?
To date I’d have to say that the Netherlands and Mozambique have been two of the finest moments. Amsterdam knows how to party, and coming from a city like Leeds, we do too, so it was great to take a big bunch of our closest friends over there with us to enjoy the showcases in and around dam. Mozambique’s Gloom festival at an Aquapark in the capital of Maputo was simply so over whelming, we played to nearly 10,000 and the memories will last forever.

Worst Domino Effects Records showcase?
Luckily we’ve not really had a bad one as such, just less memorable performances due to club equipment not quite cutting it, personal headphones and laptops being broken abroad, which always puts a dampener on any occasion. I had to literally replace most major parts of my Macbook after drinks in our Brazil hotel room literally spilt like a waterfall all over it! Gutted!

Dream Domino Effects Records artist?
Id love to pull a couple of our local Leeds boys on board, Darius Syrossian and a personal favourite, Hot Since 82! These are old friends of mine and both of them are killing it right now. A chance to work on a project with either of these boys would be truly amazing.

Most important business/music app/program/software?
Right now I couldn’t live without the Label-Worx application, these guys are our distributors and do a hell of a job in making sure I can keep on top of everything, from our releases, to the promos and DJ Support, the royalties and accounting, and everything in between. A highly recommended choice for any label looking to bring on board a skilled distro team.

Longest Day(s) ever worked?
I don’t really work days as much as I work nights. But I have been known to work round the clock on many tedious but important tasks, I’m forever at my Macbook, working on features, interviews, premieres, artist feedback and support, royalties, tour dates, events, blogs, remixers, designing artwork for promotion, working with the download stores, scheduling our releases is probably the smallest of all the jobs, we are sent demos every day from all over the world, but we prefer to find our artists ourselves, you can always tell how passionate a producer really is about working with you by approaching them unexpectedly and gauging their response from there.

Upcoming projects?
In 2016 we will launch our Black Series Tour, for those of you that don’t know, this is the current catalogue of releases we are putting out right now, and the tour is to promote that music globally, the sound of the Black Series isn’t inconsistent to our earlier releases, but has been given a push towards the Housey side of things, with a little less focus on the garage and bass. Dates are yet to be confirmed with a number of promoters in and outside the UK. Keep your eyes open for the release of our tour info, we will be bringing our artists with us and we’re very excited to see what happens the 2nd time round on tour!

Respect to Deep House London for this interview!

Download Soundcloud Label Page

Tracklist

A Lister – Gizmo (Original Mix)
Hosse – Lost In London (Original Mix) [Domino Effect]
Chris Garcia & Fabian Arche – Speak Out (Original Mix)
Hot Since 82 – Veins (Original Mix)
Hosse – My Bass Ball (Original Mix) [Domino Effect]
Qubiko – Alive (Original Mix)
Cassio Kohl – Always Existed (Original Mix)
Qubiko – Part Of Me (Original Mix)
Bicep – Rays (Original Mix)
Rare Candy – Goin On (Original Mix)

The diverse yet consistent Domino Effect imprint brings the sounds of various House & Garage genres, focused on uniting artists from all over the globe, it pushes back into old and new boundaries of its genre and reaches exciting new sounds.
