Correspondant is Jennifer Cardini musical enterprise, established in 2011 in conjunction with worldwide distributor, Kompakt Records.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Cardini launched Correspondant as an extension of her longtime residency at Paris’ Rex Club<\/strong>. Now, the Cologne-based label has issued 36 EPs and three compilations, featuring a collective of both emerging and established international artists, while hosting club nights everywhere from Nitsa<\/strong> and Panorama Bar<\/strong>, to Bootleg<\/strong> in Tel Aviv.<\/p>\n

So, with that, we continue our series highlighting our favourite labels from around the world. Today, we thought we would catch up with Correspondant Records boss, Jennifer Cardini<\/strong>\u00a0to get the scoop on all things Correspondant. Also, at the end of this article you will find an exclusive full length mix from Madrid’s Javi Redondo<\/strong> giving an idea of how Correspondant\u00a0is meant to be heard…in the mix!<\/p>\n

What\u00a0does\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0add to the dance music spectrum?<\/strong>
\nA bit of humor, a bit of tension and a bit of sweat I hope..!<\/p>\n

When did you first think about launching\u00a0Correspondant?<\/strong>
\nI always wanted to start a label, the right moment and the right demo came and I just went for it. Soon later came the help of good friend Noura Labbani\u00a0who really participated in making things more organized and consequent as our label manager.<\/p>\n

When did\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0actually\u00a0launch?<\/strong>
\n5 years ago in May from my home in Cologne back then.<\/p>\n

Story behind the\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0name?<\/strong>
\nIt’s the name of my long time residency at Rex which has been a great inspiration for the label. I often opened the night and got into digging a lot more slow and weird music. That’s where the label took his roots.<\/p>\n

What was the most difficult aspect of launching the label?<\/strong>
\nIt was quiet easy as Kompakt really helped us and explained a lot. I was already getting so many unreleased music at that time that this wasn’t an issue either. So many talented people out there.<\/p>\n

What qualities do you look for in a\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0artist?<\/strong>
\nContinuity & diversity<\/p>\n

Describe 3 seminal moments in\u00a0Correspondant existence?<\/strong>
\nThe first release of course (Nhar).\u00a0The first release of Red Axes “Camino de Dreyfuss” featuring a killer remix of Rebolledo and the compilation 03 who got the label a lot more attention.\u00a0There are more moments of course, but those three made the label really grow.<\/p>\n

Most disappointing moment in\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0existence?<\/strong>
\nI can’t really think of anything really… We encounter difficulties that we overcome most of the time. Disappointment has a strong meaning..<\/p>\n

Describe\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0album artwork?<\/strong>
\nStephane Jourdan<\/a> is responsible of the graphic identity of the label since day one. Since this year we offer residencies to artists, photographers and illustrators as well. At the moment all the sleeves are pictures made by Nadine Frazckowski<\/a>, a great addition to the music.\u00a0I love her work.<\/p>\n

Best\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0showcase?<\/strong>
\nToo many…. First time Panorama Bar was amazing, Andrew Weatherall’s set at Nitsa, Man Power at Rex, Andre Bratten at Le Sucre… Really can’t choose, every one is special, just come!<\/p>\n

Worst\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0showcase?<\/strong>
\nWe prefer small venues and choose carefully so we actually always have a nice time. It’s also very unlikely that it turns into a nightmare as we all know each other and are always happy to see each other.<\/p>\n

Dream\u00a0Correspondant\u00a0artist?<\/strong>
\nHe did some remixes and had a track on the compilation 3 .. I would really love to work more with Roman Flugel. I recently moved and went through my record\u00a0collection and there is so much smart diverse and beautiful music from Roman. Andre Bratten was also a little dream, looking forward to have him back on the label soon..!<\/p>\n
