The Flying Circus opening party for this summer’s season at the hugely popular Sankeys Ibiza, to be led this year by the always enigmatic twosome, Audiofly. These guys have been killing it for over a decade now as DJs and producers and never fail to raise the roof off a party.

Sankeys, now in its third season on the island, is always a huge favourite with its mostly British party crowd on the white isle due to its northern roots and hugely loyal and passionate fan base.

Once inside we’re met with the slow-house, German demon on the decks that is Daniel Bortz. His early night set is littered with well-received house grooves and the occasional harder tech number just to keep everyone on their toes and fist-pumping. The Sankeys basement setting is, even for them, darkness personified with occasional flashes of bright lights.

Next up is the main act, Audiofly. The duo’s arrival on set is met with a huge roar, as the crowd senses that Anthony and Luca’s arrival is likely to lead to something special. Their set is packed with hard-hitting tech house that takes everyone involved (including themselves) on a journey filled with waves of energy and emotion. The great Void sound system that Sankeys is famed for really does come into its own during Audiofly’s set, throbbing and vibrating with clarity and punch.

Last on the menu was the wonderfully gifted and always endearing German, Robag Wruhme. Famed for being the production mastermind behind the Wighnomy Brothers project, since he went solo he‘s made a solid reputation for producing forward-thinking and emotive, minimalistic house music. His DJ sets are infamous for straddling the blurry line where minimal, house and techno collide and this set calls on everything from Moderat to Marc Romboy. It’s a perfect way to finish the night, and a great way to throw the gauntlet down to the rest of the acts soon to be on the bill at Flying Circus over the rest of the season.

Words: Pete Downes

Flying Circus

Last Friday the wait was finally over for what I’ve been eagerly anticipating for months.
