Please introduce yourself to our readers.

Hey guys! Thanks for having me! Hope all is well! I’m good, thank you! My name is Pablo Pina better known by the stage name Sainte Vie. I’m an electronic music producer, sound engineer and record label owner. I was born and raised in México City until the age of 16, then I moved to Nantes to finish high school followed by New York to study Music Technology. I’m 26 years old and I’m currently based in Miami, Florida.

It’s been a challenging time for everyone of the past year or so, none more so than for musicians – how have you been doing?

Definitely! I actually feel very lucky I got to spend some quality time with my family and focus strictly on making music during the past year. 2020 was a very productive year for me in terms of music production, I had the chance to explore different genres within the electronic music spectrum and learn so much from artists I admire thanks to all the online masterclasses that came out during the pandemic. Right now, as the world starts to re open my touring schedule seems to be going back to normal which is amazing! It feels so good to be back on stage sharing all my new productions. I’m really happy and excited for what’s to come! I must say the only thing that’s a bit annoying to me at the moment are all the travel restrictions in place which make the traveling experience quite complicated. Hopefully that too goes back to normal soon.

Did you find yourself writing more music with more time on your hands or did it become less important without clubs and spaces to share it?

I honestly think it became more important than ever to me! During lockdown I genuinely spent most of my time in the studio writing music. I knew venues and festivals were eventually going to return so I wanted to be ready for that moment.

What is the scene in Mexico like for parties, young DJs and artists, record stores and so on – is it healthy?

I didn’t really get to experience México’s nightlife before I left the country as I was too young when I left. That said, I can confirm from past experiences there are some really amazing festivals such as Vive Latino, Corona Capital, Trópico and Bravo Festival in addition to some incredibly talented upcoming and established artists such as Zoé, Café Tacvba, Bengala, Nada, Isaac Soto, Dark But Gray and Jiony to name a few. Record store wise I honestly haven’t been to a lot of them but I really like La Roma Records in México City.

You are set to become the next artist to release on Cercle this July – how much are you looking forward to it and tell us the story of how this emerged?

Cercle have unveiled 14 single releases from different artists and I couldn’t be more excited to join their amazingly curated release catalog. I am extremely grateful for the opportunity and I can’t wait to share the result with everyone the day of the release! It honestly feels surreal! I’ve been a huge fan of Cercle since the moment they started. It was an amazing experience to work and meet the team behind such an incredible project, they are all super kind, talented and professional. During lockdown I sent a few demo tracks to Phil who is in charge of Cercle’s artistic curation, he then responded he wanted to release one of the tracks as part of their new Cercle Stories concept which consists of a single track live session for their Cercle Records releases.

You have collaborated with WhoMadeWho and committed to a few high profile remixes for the likes of Acid Pauli – tell us more, do you enjoy the collaborative approach?

Of course! Although I haven’t done a lot of collaborations or remixes in my career yet, I really enjoy doing it! I always love to learn from other artists! The ones you just mentioned are super special to me as both WhoMadeWho and Acid Pauli have deeply inspired me along the way. I’ve been a huge fan of their work for a long time, I have so much respect and admiration for them. I can’t thank them enough for giving me the opportunity to collaborate and remix their music. I will always be grateful for it.

Who would you like to collaborate with in the future?

Nicolás Jaar, Tale of Us, Adriatique, David August, Stephan Bodzin, Innellea and Colyn.
