Stephan Bodzin proves once again why he is one of the most innovative techno\u00a0artists in the world with new album\u00a0Boavista<\/b>. The expressive 17 track full length\u00a0lands on\u00a0Herzblut Recordings,\u00a0<\/b>and is proceeded by lead\u00a0single\u00a0‘Boavista’<\/b>\u00a0on the\u00a0Afterlife\u00a0<\/b>label.<\/p>\n

German icon Stephan Bodzin is globally recognised on a number of fronts – his\u00a0live show is one of techno’s most celebrated<\/b>, his productions constantly\u00a0push\u00a0the genre forward<\/b>\u00a0with his own\u00a0trademark sound<\/b>. He has put out well-received\u00a0solo long players\u00a0Liebe Ist<\/b>\u00a0and\u00a0Powers of Ten<\/b>\u00a0as well as worked on many other\u00a0iconic projects under a range of aliases.<\/p>\n

In the last year, Stephan had the chance to look back on the vast archives of\u00a0music he has recorded but never finished. While spending time in Brazil, he\u00a0picked his 25 favourites and finished them properly, with the best 17 making up\u00a0Boavista. His simple aim was to\u00a0tell stories with each track<\/b>, to\u00a0paint musical\u00a0pictures<\/b>\u00a0that conjure up very real emotions in the listener. As always, playing the\u00a0album live was in the back of Bodzin’s mind throughout the creative process.\u00a0This means each track is a powerful piece that is both emotional and honest,\u00a0physical and straightforward, but also true to the authentic Bodzin sound. The\u00a0lack of DJ gigs and club experiences had no impact on the music: Stephan has\u00a0long since done his own thing and has never tried to conform to expectations.<\/p>\n

And so it proves. The album kicks off with the lush\u00a0‘Earth’\u00a0<\/b>which pays homage to\u00a0all the elements of life – water, fire, wind, as well as time, light and the rotation of\u00a0the planet.\u00a0‘LLL’\u00a0<\/b>is an electronic lullaby track defined by a sense of love for the\u00a0people in Stephan’s life and\u00a0‘Astronautin’<\/b>\u00a0has a lead synth that came about after\u00a0Stephan’s daughter said she would like to be an astronaut when she grows up. It\u00a0truly takes you to the stars before the simple but effective melodic patterns of\u00a0the title track light up a night sky with real hope.<\/p>\n

Elsewhere there\u00a0‘Infinite Monkey’<\/b>\u00a0which was a freeform jam that was lead by the\u00a0music itself, the epic pads of\u00a0‘Dune’<\/b>\u00a0and interstellar explorations of the more\u00a0thoughtful and melancholic\u00a0‘Cooper Station\u2019<\/b>.\u00a0‘Nothing Like You’\u00a0<\/b>was written in a\u00a0hotel room before Stephan’s last pre-lockdown gig, then\u00a0‘Isaac’<\/b>\u00a0is another\u00a0powerful journey through space and time, different worlds and alternative\u00a0realities.<\/p>\n

Further hypnotising highlights come from the soft melodies but powerful\u00a0basslines of\u00a0‘Collider’<\/b>, the expansive synths of\u00a0‘Trancoso’<\/b>\u00a0and the delicate\u00a0beauty of\u00a0\u2018Ataraxia’<\/b>, which references German composer\u00a0Klaus Doldinger\u00a0<\/b>who\u00a0was a huge influence on Stephan’s understanding of melodies and harmonics.\u00a0‘Breathe’\u00a0<\/b>is a second spindling vocal track featuring\u00a0Luna Semara\u00a0<\/b>next to\u00a0‘Nothing Like You’\u00a0<\/b>and closer\u00a0‘Rose’\u00a0<\/b>is a heartbreaking piano piece.<\/p>\n

Boavista<\/b>\u00a0is another exquisitely crafted album of rich, synth-heavy electronic\u00a0music that takes you into new worlds of emotion and leaves you in awe.<\/div>\n
