I started the year with no expectations, especially since it’s the first year of the Skuro project, and it’s always very difficult to start from zero.

What made you want to start a new alias?

S: With my old alias (VLLN), I was feeling demotivated lately. I was making music just for the streams, and I wasn’t making music because I enjoyed it anymore. Last summer was a transitional one; I had time to experiment a lot, and above all, I had the chance to dive into a more ‘club’ genre, something more my own, and I’m really happy with this change

How different is the sound of the two projects?

S: Skuro was born with the idea of having a completely dark sound, trying to combine very distorted and glitched sounds with melodic techno bass and more. I don’t like following patterns, and I never take references; that’s why I tend to create more experimental tracks.VLLN was a much more chill project, with drops that were more vocal and nostalgic, and less melodic. It was mainly a more ‘radio-friendly’ project.

Why not just do it all under one alias?

S: With my old alias, I had never built an ‘image’ that could set me apart. I was ‘immature,’ so it felt right to start from scratch with a well-defined image, and especially with songs that could be similar to each other in terms of sound

What inspired this new alias, what’s the musical vibe?

S: Before VLLN, I experimented a lot; I made music that was more chill but at the same time more nostalgic and dark, and I really loved doing that. Skuro is probably a return to my roots, with more techno and clubbing sounds

Will DJ sets represent the sounds produced in the studio?

S: Absolutely, my DJ sets are heavily influenced by the sounds I produce in the studio. I always try to find powerful tracks with sounds that are very ‘similar’ to my style, so I can have a DJ set that is both unique and powerful at the same time.

What have been the key lessons learnt in your career so far?

S: After many years of experience, I can say that communication, combined with good music, is the key to becoming a true DJ and producer. You can’t do anything alone, and that’s the beauty of it—meeting people who can help you and who share your passion is rewarding. Of course, all of this needs to be paired with good music, but most importantly, a concrete idea of your project

What’s next for you after this interview?

For now, I have a plan for two or three more releases this year. I’m working on a new filmed DJ set, like the one I did a few months ago with 7rituals. I’m working on a lot of new songs with many collaborations for next year. But most importantly, my team and I are working on securing some tour dates around the world.

What goals, hopes and dreams do you have for this project?

S: Certainly, continuing to grow both as a person and as an artist. I still have a lot to learn, and I recognize that, but I’m happy to have a team that supports and helps me in any situation. As for goals, my biggest dream is to travel the world, sharing my music as much as possible. I’ve been working towards this for over 10 years. I would love to have my own album, not just with melodic techno, but incorporating various genres to express myself fully. I have many songs that I’ve always loved and are gathering dust, and I’m just waiting for the right moment and context to release them. Lastly, in the near future, I would like to have my own event where I can express myself 100% both artistically and musically.

Skuro IG Skuro Beatport We sit down with Italian Melodic artist Skuro (formerly known as VLLN) to discuss the new alias, the inspiration, the concept, and the effect it will have on his sound both in the studio and in his DJ sets….
