He is hailed by the likes of Solomun, Maceo Plex and Tensnake, he has a studio productivity that many others would be jealous of and in a short time frame he has toured the world from Tunisia to Turkey, from South Africa to the United Arab Emirates and from the USA to the People’s Republic of China, this Lithuanian trailblazer has seen it all. We’re talking about Mario Basanov, and for the few of you who had not heard of him yet, this is what he sounds like:

What is most notable when you listen to his work is that he has crafted his very own sound, but this sound is again so eclectic and diverse, that you can’t really put your finger on it. So it’s not only Mario’s productions that makes people take note of him, but Mario’s scope and versatility. Because he proves he is just as comfortable producing a pop-infused vocal as he is making tasteful underground dancefloor weapons. House, Disco and Electronica; it’s all there in Mario’s repertoire. His creativity and abilities show genres appear as names, not boundaries.
The only red line that binds all his music is the bass. In an interview Mario explains: “The bassline is the main and essential character in my music, and I put a lot of time in making sure it doesn’t sound cheap”. Those bass lines are also very present in the music he makes as his secret moniker (you know who we mean).
Tomorrow, on Friday the 17th of January, he will touch down in Amsterdam once again. And have we missed him! Mario will be playing at Cookie Club in AIR Amsterdam, a popular recurring event, which name is embedded in the Amsterdam nightlife for some time now. While Mario will headline the evening, his colleagues that evening aren’t rookies either: Amsterdam’s finest, Homework will be tuning in, as well as the promising breakthrough act of 2013, Cleavage. To top all this off, the talented WNDWLCKRS will be warming up the place nicely with their dark, grooving sound that is starting to hit the spot with the Amsterdam public.
